I want to burn some of my DVD's because I am going on a trip and don't want the originals to be messed up on the plane or wherever. So, will this work?
I want to use the burned DVD's on my portable DVD player, will it work on that? Also, I just put in my Shaun Of The Dead movie and it is 7.37 gigs or something!? How can I copy that? What type of discs do I need? All I have now are DVD-R's.
That's what DVD Decrypter (to decrypt copy protected DVDS) and DVDShrink (to shrink a DVD so it fits on one disk) DO!
Check the specs on your portable player. If it takes -R, then you're good to go.
with DVD Shrink, you can take out the extras and the unwanted audio files like the dialogue in different languages, that will give you some space back.
if still oversized for your dvd then 2 options, use shrink to compress to fit, as the above user said, or get hold of a dvd9 dual layer disc.
you do not need new hardware for a dual layer disc.
another thing to do is rip the movie to harddrive {if you have laptop} and transcode the vobs to AVI {divx} winavi or TMPGEnc wil do this fine, then you can store the film files to hdd, at around 700mb per 2 hour film generaly, depending what resolution and bitrate you chose.
