Hey whats up people, I came across this site while trying to figure out whats going on with my ps2.

I just had the ps2 modded the other day and decided to try and backup a few games and see what happens. well the games load no problem but once in a while the games will freeze up, it takes a minute or 2 and then you can play again. This happens every 5 minutes or so.

I've read that it could be the media, or the software that im using or also the burning speed, are their any other factors that could cause this to happen?

I have a LG dvd burner and im using matrix dvdr for the blank media. I hope I posted everything that you might need to help me solve this issue.

sorry about the newbie questions, you probably get these 100X a day.

Thanks in advance.

its probably your crappy matrix dvdr discs. You need to use good discs for ps2 backups like verbatim or ritek.

V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

Does your PS2 act this way with all games, or just your backups? If it acts that way will originals too, then you might need to clean your discs and your laser. If it's just your backups then I would try burning your games at the slowest speed possible. If that doesn't work, try simply changing the brand of media. Oh..BTW..some PS2s favor DVD+R over DVD-R and vice versa. Some PS2s can't even play one or the other. Experiment a little and you'll find one that works good for your PS2. A lot of people on here recommend Nero or DVD Decrypter to make your backups with. You didn't mention what software you were using, so you might wanna check that out too.

Some people do recommend using high qualtity discs. I personally use Memorex brand from Wal-mart, and I've never had any problems.

thanks for the quick replys. I am using Nero to make backups of the games. Im going to try and burn them a 1X and see what happens.

This only happens with the backup games, all the originals play fine. The ps2 is only 2 weeks old, the mod was done yesterday. I will try some of the advise and see what happens.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

don't worry about it. we were all new once.
Most games that i had freeze up on me were due to one of two things.
1. cheap media that you burned it on.
2. burning at the wrong speed (which is always highly debated)
I can tell you that when i had choppy games, or games that froze on me i would reburn them to better media and they would work.
I always use Phillips 8X DVD-R discs. Sometimes Even TDK 4X DVD-R discs and they also work. I burn them by setting DVD Decrypter write speed to 1X. It will burn at a faster speed depending on the speed of discs you use. I have also started burning a lot of games at 4X and they work fine too.

If these same games worked fine before you got the system modded then i would say that there is a problem with the modchip, or it was installed incorrectly.

well I reburned one of the games at 1x, it was actually burning it at 2, but once I did this the game worked alot better, I played for about a half hour and it only froze on me once, so I guess the next step is to try new media. The dvd's I have now were just bought in a huge bundle, the cheap once, they work perfect for making copies of movies, but I Guess the ps2 is a little more picky when it comes to these things, I will try again and let you all know how it went.

again thanx for the help and advise, much appreciated.

Yeah...the PS2s laser was designed to read pressed discs. Use caution in using cheap media because it can cause your laser to burn out quicker. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I was told that if it takes more than 30 seconds for a game or level to load, that you were hurting your laser.
