im running a v12 ps2 with smagic 3.3. ive recently run into problems with loading discs. i load smagic fine, then i put in the dvd and it spins fine.. but on alot of the games intros the discs slow down really slow and the video starts skipping. this pstwo has limited use, very limited use and im wondering why it would start doing this. why would the discs slow down that bad? thanks for your time.

Could be bad media. What media are you using?

im using memorex dvd+r.. its not doing it to all games, but only a few such as san andreas and nfl street 2. but its just recently. i have over 150 backups and it just recently started doing this.. ive noticed tiny, and i mean tiny little scratches, but i hardly doubt that is the reason why.. it still plays backed up dvds perfectly also.. its very odd.. like i said though, all my games were tested before and passed as working. i also have all the games labeled, but they seem to spin evenly with the labels.

well im not sure about the laser dying. its weird, i notice the worst effects on nfl street 2 and san andreas. i load other games with good intros such as god of war and tekken 5 and i get no errors..doesnt make much sense.. and like i said, this ps2 has minimum use on it.. id say it has less then 10 total hours of gameplay on it.. thats way too early for a laser to go bad no?

That memorex media is crap. Try quality media like Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek etc. Memorex is awesome for DVD films but for games it is awful.
