Hello, I have just registered here but over time I have dropped in fairly regularly looking for assistance.

I downloaded some TV series of Stargate SG1 and they tell me they are .avi which can be played on Media Player Classic. When I right click the file it says in properties that it is a video clip.

I have tried 5 different conversion programs to get them to DVD and all have resulted in a blocky pixel look, not overly bad, but enough to be slightly blurred.

I even tried using NTI to burn them to a vcd but the results were the same.
I am looking to burn them but not sure what will give a good appearance, and I do not know what format I should choose to gain this quality. When I play them through media player, they look just like a dvd should do. Not at all pixelled.
I have a few codecs on this machine, K-Lite Codec Pack, ACE Mega Codecs and one Program of conversion (Cucusoft) has its own codes which were downloaded. I think I have enough but something is not right and I do not know where to look or what to choose.
This is the first time I have had this problem so I am truly stuck.

First off you do not need a Whole Bunch of Codecs installed, You can get away with haveing Just one codec that will decode every Format Like "FFDshow Decoder" which when configured properly can decode allmost every AVI,Mpeg,WMV Video format there is Includeing most all audio formats...You can Find it in the Software section of this site, Just remember when installing it select every format in the List so it is Configured to decode everything.....

Now to you Quality Problem.....What determines the Quality of a DVD is the Quality and Resolution of your Source File, the Quality of the Encoder you are useing to encode the File to Mpeg-2/DVD Format and the bitrate and other settings used to encode the Source File to Mpeg-2/DVD format.....

So hopefully your AVI files are of a High Resolution and High Quality so your DVD will also have High Quality...

So now you are going to have to find yourself a Good High Quality mpeg encoder and there are only a small handfull that Produce Top notch quality...TMPGEnc is the Only one I know of that you can use for 30 days without paying for it, you can get it in the Software section of this site....TMPGEnc has a wizard that will guide you through the setting up of your File for encodeing to Mpeg-2 for DVD...

After encodeing to Mpeg-2/DVD you will need to use a DVD authoring program to add your menu"s and Chapters and to Burn the DVD...One of the easiest to use is "Tmpgenc DVD author" which also can be downloaded in the software section....

There are guides on this Site that will Guide you through the process.....

Good Grief, more to this than meets the eye.
I used DVD Santa and discovered another couple of things I did not know, 1. audio type PCM and size 256 x 144.
Not they help me much but thought the more info you have the better to help me.
I played one file in media player classic and it appears to be okay, but when I expand media player to screen size (17") it then becomes blocky (pixelled).
Now that you know these extra things, is it the source file as you said or do I have to convert it to widescreen instead of full screen for example.

Well no wonder the File looks Like Crap after encodeing the Resolution is Way to Low to produce any sort of Quality...The Resolution is only about 15% of the Standard DVD Resolution of 720+480 so when the File gets resized up to 720+480 the Image Quality gets destroyed....

I personally would not attempt to Put this File on to DVD because the Quality will be Horendus ...This File just isn"t suited for makeing a DVD and no matter what you do you are going to end up with a Very Blocky and Pixelated Image....
