Has anyone tried backing this disc up. I think there's a new copy protection that doesn't even let your DVD burner recognize the disc. When I put the DVD in the DVD-ROM drive it register blank disc and it deosn't have a title either. I use the most recent AnyDVD 5.1.1.1 and it keeps shutting off like the DVD itself overrides the program. So, if you guys have any clue how to rip this movie than pm or email me. Thank you....

I ripped it with only DVD Shrink which tells me there is no new protection on this movie. Since you are having problems getting your ROM or burner to recognize the disk, it is a good possibility you got a bad press. There seems to be a lot of that happening lately.

Thank your for your help. I seem to think that they need to make more time pushing these dics out so that we don't get bad pressings. Unfortunately, nothing is perfect by all means.

Try to play the DVD for a couple of minutes with PowerDVD or WMP or whatever program you want. Then have shrink analyze it while it's playing. Hopefully that will unlock your drive, which I guess has to be done sometimes.

I am having the exact same problem as goki31. It is just shutting down my AnyDVD and I know it was recognized by the drive because it shows the name of the movie in the list of css keys in AnyDVD. I think there is something to this way beyond just a bad pressing of the movie. I think something is shutting off AnyDVD. Then my drive won't recognize it or any movie at all. It's very strange.
Anyone else having this issue or found a fix?

I backed up this movie using AnyDVD and DVD Shrink, there is no special protection on it.

I updated my AnyDVD to 5.1.2.1 like squizzle suggested and it did the trick. But I guarantee that there was something that shut down 5.1.1.1 on this movie.

AnyDVD 5.1.1 had some bugs in it from the new change to 64bit, I had probs with the program, it was not the movie in this case.

Since LABOY was able to copy this movie using only DVD Shrink, then there were no new protection on this disc. DVD Shrink hasn't been updated in quite a while and doesn't handle new protections. The updated AnyDVD was just able to better read an othetwise bad disc. DVD Decrypter is generally also a little better than other programs as at reading imperfect discs.

I tried everthing, Decrypter, Shrink, AnyDVD, cleaning the DVD, cleaning the burner (with a claning disk). Nothing worked. I can't get my burner to recognize the disk (Alone In The Dark). I can't get any of my DVD players (on my PC) to play it either. But it works in my DVD PLayer. Go figure. I guess I'll just have to buy another copy if I want a backup. Any thoughts out there in DVD/CD burning land?

Hey, is there really a new version of AnyDVD? I just went to the sit and it only shows 5.1.1.1, same as I already have. If there had been a new one, they usually let me know. And didn't Alone In The Dark just come out? This thread started 5/11 its 5/22. Man am I behind the times or what?

Thanks anyway, arniebear. Guess I can wait for Slysoft. I never liked taking risks. Nice to know one of the masters is on hand to help us newbies though.

I don't freakin' believe it. I swapped my new dvd Alone In the Dark
with someone from work who just bought it too and my PC still can't read the disk. No problem in my DVD player but my computer doesn't even acknowledge there's a disk in the drive. What the dang blasted crap is goin' on? Anyone else havin' this problem? Any solutions?

maybe AnyDVD 5.1.2.1??? That could be the reason they did the update.

Yep....seems to be a problem. I just rented the DVD and put it in my DVD drive and it doesn't recognize it. I put it in my DVD player and it started playing right away. I let it play the movie all the way thru and then put it in my DVD drive of my computer and it still would not play or recognize that it was there.

@kivory
Lol, told you I am not a risk taker, I always need the nudge. BTW did you get the nudge towards that Plextor yet? I still do not know what the problem with this movie is, there is no special protection it has got to be a bad pressing, seems to be an epidemic lately.
