Ok here is the latest error. After reading it over i do see that it says Unknown Disc. I also see it says DMA off. I do have it enabled. So why is it doing that? Im not all technical and stuff when it comes to nitty gritty of computers so im scared to uninstall drivers and stuff like that and reinstall them. But look at it and let me know what you think. I also would like to know how to test my DVD's to see if i just may have a 2 bad bunches. I looked through all the Nero stuff and didnt see any test things. Im going to go check DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter now.

Here is your problem. Quit using unknown cheap media period. If you continue to do this, and failed more than 6 times, Nero will kick your burner and driver back to PIO MODE instead of ULTRA DMA/DMA MODE. Please do all of us a favor and get a pack of 25 high quality media such as Fuji/TY, Verbatim, Maxell and SONY. Try to burn it again with the new highly recommended media, and if you still encounter any errors, come back and post your "error log." With that being said; hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to help you resolve this problem for you.

@smileddog - sorry to hear you're still having problems. Have been thru your latest log -
Quote:
DiskPeripheral : ST340810A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
- you need DMA set on that hard drive
Quote:
Recorder: <PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D>Version: 1.08
- i found an official Pioneer page this time, turns out that firmware 1.08 is old, it seems 16x writing is only supported in firmware rev 1.17 (i know you're only doing 4x but to me the firmware still needs to be up to date to properly support using 16x media; the newest version on that page is 1.50) - http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00003r_e.html

- doesn't seem right to have lots of these entries; must be a symptom of the overall problem

- hmmm...

Basically you need to get DMA set on your hard drive as detailed further up the post, and sort the firmware. Then do a simulation burn in Nero, not an actual burn, then post the logfile...

Nero log is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log. All burns good and bad, are appended to this logfile, so copy/paste the last section here (minus serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar). It's easy to differentiate the sections between burns in the log, just dig out the last section...

ok i went to the pioneer site, ive been there before. it says that i have the most updated firmware for my model. i have the DVR 106D. i already downloaded that and updated my firmware. So i dont think i can go any further updating that anymore. I still see that it says DMA off. i keep trying that link above and it doesnt work. When i go the the page it says URL Invalid or something along those lines. Is there anyway you can email me the intructions or post them on here. Thanks. I have a feeling thats the problem. when i go to check them it always says DMA IF AVAILABLE for both drives. Ultra DMA MODE. but then when i burn i get the error onthe log saying DMA off. im puzzled. see if you can get me those intructions to have Windowns enable them maybe that will work. Im seriosly about to throw this computer out the window and by another one.

sorry to hear you're still having problems.

The only thing i can see is that your hard drive still seems to say DMA is off -
Quote:
DiskPeripheral : ST340810A atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
try that link from bbmayo again, making sure to uninstall both primary and secondary channels. I guess that's already stated in his link. If DMA still isn't set on that hard drive i was going to suggest that you might have the wrong hard drive cable, ie a standard 40pin instead of 80pin ?? - http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html

edit - then i checked your drive and it's an ATA100 so your cable should be fine.

We really need to get DMA working on that hard drive...Keep trying and instead of actually burning a disc, try a simulation burn so it just goes thru the motions, then you won't waste a disc.

If all still fails the only other thing i can think of is that maybe the jumpers aren't set correctly on the hard drive/dvd drive. A long shot but i'm running out of ideas

Ok maybe this will explain something. I have 2 drives. One of the drives my CD drive is the one that came with the computer i do not have hooked up because i only had one cord and that was for my DVD burner. So i have my burner hooked up, which is the same drive i now use as my cd drive to. thats why i think it says DMA off. i did uninstall both as per the instructions and i still got that error. maybe this will help. I orginally had Nero. it was downloaded off KAZAA and someone gave me a crack for it. then i ran into a problem when i couldnt burn anything anymore after using it for over a year. I then tried to update it but when i did that it reconized that it was an unlicsened version and locked it on me. Thats when i uninstalled it and went out and bought the real version of Nero then updated that. all seemed to go well. I feel like there is a simple answer to this. Why all of a sudden would it stop? do you think after 300 burns on my burner it $h!t the bed? is there a way to test the actual burner? a way to test the burning software(NERO)? and a way to test the Shrink program(DVD Shrink)? i am correct that i should be burning as a DVD VIDEO and not DVD ISO or DVDROM or one of the other choices right? i have to discount the cord idea. Like i said i have burned over 300 movies. Now i couldnt even burn Mary Poppins even if i wanted to. LOL. I hope some of the info i gave now can crack this problem. Peace Out.

has any body mentioned DVD Decrypter no need for the expense and seems alot simpler. I always write the iso. that might have something to do with it. these things might have been mentioned here i got lost in the archives of your post. if this was'nt the information some hippy would be throwing a fit over the acre of so of trees you would of killed. two more suggestions pay attention to your speeds dvd burner, the media and,the actual burn speed your using to write have to be compatable.(not to mention it looks like your burner only likes -r) and then maybe your stand alone will like it.

ok i started looking into other ways to burn. I used decypter to rip the movie to my hard drive. i then dragged it over to shrink to get just the movie. then i went back to decyrpter and tried to get it to then write it to the disk but it wont let me. it wont let me choose the files that have been shrunk. only the one that it ripped in the beginning which is too big to fit on a disc. what am i doing wrong?
i tried burning after shrink got done shrinking because it automatically chooses Nero to burn, and that didnt work either. It only went about 5 minutes that time before it spit out an error message. and it barley burned anything on the disc. as where before it looks like it would burn half the disc then spit it out.
