Xbox 360 Giveaway?Every 10 Minutes for 9 Weeks!
May 17, 2005, Los Angeles, Calif.?Microsoft® and Pepsi-Cola® North America today announced a U.S. promotion to put Xbox 360?, the next-generation videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft, into the hands of thousands of lucky people before the console hits store shelves. Beginning August 28, 2005, Mountain Dew (Pepsi?s intense citrus soft drink) and Xbox will select a winner of an Xbox 360 console every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for nine weeks straight.

Gaming industry executives attending this year?s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles will get an exclusive opportunity to be among the first 10 people to have a chance to win an Xbox 360 through a special ?Peel-to-Play? contest. Free 20-ounce bottles of Mountain Dew containing game pieces produced exclusively for the event will be distributed to E3 attendees on Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19. In addition to the 10 Xbox 360 consoles, winning game pieces will be good for Xbox games, Mountain Dew T-shirts, hats, and other prizes.

To answer your question WVengance. Obviously i have heard something at least you havn't.
The 360 has support for 2 memory cards, 3 usb ports, 1 ethernet port, wi-fi(802.11a/b/g), 4 wireless controllers, dvd and a detatchable 2.5" hdd. It has 1 HD screen output which can produce 720i, 720p and 1080i resolutions. (1080 is approx 2000x1000 pixels)
Total formats supported by dvd drive:
DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-DA, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, WMA CD, MP3 CD, JPEG Photo CD
The ps3 has 1 original ps memory card slot, 1 sony memory card slot, 1 compact flash card slot, 6 usb ports, 3 ethernet ports, 1 in and 2 out (so that it can function as a hub for a normal network or to connect several ps3's together for combined functions), wi-fi(802.11 b/g), so far up to 7 wireless controllers (they have plans to attempt to make it 8), blu-ray and the detatchable 2.5" hdd. It has 2 HD screen outputs which can produce 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. (p is Progressive, which is better than i for those who don't know that).
Total formats suported by blu-ray drive:
PlayStation CD-ROM, PlayStation 2 CD-ROM, CD-DA, CD-DA (ROM), CD-R, CD-RW, SACD, SACD Hybrid (CD layer), SACD HD, DualDisc, DualDisc (audio side), DualDisc (DVD side)

That is just the multimedia specs. I won't post general hardware specs as i fear i cannot fully back up why one is better than the other. But from what we see here, the ps3 DOES in fact have A LOT MORE concrete external options than the xbox. When it comes to live etc, time will tell.
And to you rap4life. Nice articles. For the eagle eyed of you you will notice they are all from xbox.com. What a shocker. There are just as many articles which tell the same story for sony. "Company x goes to sony" "Company y ditches xbox" etc etc. I can find them if i really have to. But you seem to be so full of sources that you must be able to find them yourself.
Also rap4life, ps2 sales were a lot higher than xbox sales in the us aswell, even when xbox was at its "prime". Partially due to the release of the ps2slim.
And i cannot see how you agree so completely with that xbox fanboy (yes he is a true fanboy). Although xbox is "Better" than the ps2. The ps2 had the advantage of more, and (mostly) better games, with a few exceptions like halo etc.
Also, M$ IS losing money on xbox and xbox360, but they don't care cause they got loads of it, they are waiting and hoping they will make some money soon.
Sony i MAKING money, and they have to since their cash reserve doesn't even come close to matching that of M$.
Sorry for the agressive point of view there, but being the ps fan i am i have to defend it as best i can^^. Please inform me if i am wrong on any point as i try not to be.

Sony, BANKRUPT??!!! HAH! They don't only do ps you know. They are a VERY big enterprise with computers mp3 players and other electronics. But i think that ps3 is their biggest gamble for cash i have to agree.

Sony is losing to it comption in every way exp. the PS3 cant help Sony
they will lose, unless they dont make over 1 million, the more they make the more they spen and if they make alot they will have to sell them cheaper

Actually Sony could very well end up going bankrupt. PS2 acounted for like 38% of Sony's bottom line if memory serves me right as well as they are six trillion yen in debt or around 60 billion usd in debt. They are getting to be as bad as GM and Ford.
Chances are that if PS3 doesn't do as well as PS2 did then they will loose a lot of money while most likely increasing their debt. Why do you think they are attacking xbox 360? They know that PS is their cash cow and M$ has proved that they are a credible threat and the mud throwing by both companies seems to indicate that this round will be dog fight where the consumer will benefit.

Sony in debt?? Ok. i didn't know that, but it sounds faesible. However i hope sony wins this round. I dread to think what would happen if M$ got the largest slice here aswell. They already own the os industry.
I really hate M$ to hell, not the xbox as much, but Micro ******* soft. hatehatehatehate.........
Lots of reasons for it, but none that are very valid.

all 3 systems will do well initially because, let's face it, video gaming is huge right now. A drop off will occur in the years to come because in my opinion the peak was around San Andreas and Halo 2.
The market is big enough for 3 players, playstation is the benchmark - ps2 outsold xbox 4:1 for every one xbox bought, there were four ps2s gettin' rung up as well. PS3 will outsell the 360 even if it's a slightly weaker product - and if it performs better AND competes in price - look out xbox - don't worry, Microsoft will be fine - I'll take those checks any day. Nintendo's cool - Yeah, it is!
I'm not gonna feel sorry for anybody who falls behind in this market because they're fat NOW.

has anyone forgotten the revolution. im a sony fan boy but nintendo has a tendancy to make low price extremely high quality hard ware. and the games are simple fun and addictive. i saw x-play once and they were testing xbox ps2 and gamecube to see which is the most powerful (endurance of damage.)
they had 3 test.
1.drop from a 15 foot drop.(sony died on the first test.)
2.hit with a sludge hamer(both GC and xbox survived.
3. luanch the systems into a brick wall.(xbox did not start but the gc worked fine.

I agree, they will probably survive, since there are "too" many hardcore ps fans out there.
I think the revoltion will be wick and will have no problems, they are targeting the younger audience, and have close to a monopoly there.

the revolution and x box360 r going to be cheaper then the PS3 by 100 and 200 dollors most of america cant aford something $500. PS 3 and revolution will sale in japan, japan is the 3rd richest contries with a population less the TX, Ca, FL, or NY. Maybe the japanese think the USA cant make a console or still mad about the A bomb.um like i was saying with nitendo making something that could cost 150-200 will take money from and console sales from PS3 and Xbox 360. Xbox 360 will have japanese like games for japan Sony Buys. Japan agreed with Hitler. so if u buy PS3 its like saying Hitler was not wrong. Dont ride with Hitler

M$ were the ones losing money on the xbox. Playstations always made money.
Lucky for us there's this console war... we can only benefit from it.
Personally I won't touch an xbox because I'm not interested in it's games. I'm a final fantasy/tekken player and most other games I have no interest in. especially that overhyped, did-not-deliver, what-sort-of-ending-was-that game Halo 2, lame. my friend had that game on his Xbox, and if that's the best they have they'll lose this battle. Even he was sadly disappointed and he's a M$ fanboy.

I will agree that the PS3 has more different imports. However, the Sony Memory stick & Compact Flash, but these are meant to use for pictures, music and the like. You can just as easily use USB for most anything that supports those formats (Like a Digital camera or MP3 player) on the 360. Again, it does have 4 more USB ports, but I could just as easily use a USB hub to expand the #.
The PS3 does have 3 more controllers (There will not be 8. That is a limitation of Bluetooth and there isn't much Sony can do there), but how many people are really going to use 7 controllers. These don't really have anything to do with Multimedia and probably won't be used anyways. I rarely use 2 and 4 only on fighting games... Technically though, 360's wireless USB could support 255. While they have only supported 4, they could easily deploy an update through live for more if they really wanted.
You could use a PS3 as a hub, but then most anyone that has Live also has a router and/or switch. It's a feature that I (and most anyone using a 360 online) would never need. However, that has nothing to do with multimedia.
Next up is dual support with 1080P. Again, the 360 doesn't match this BUT do you have a HDTV with 1080P support? I'd be surprised if you did. Since HDTV's have approx. 10-15% market penetration most people don't have one (let alone two) HDTV's. You will have to spend $3000-$4000 to pick up one that supports 1080P and double that for two. While this MAY have some use several years from now, that remains to be seen.
Blue Ray-Where to start with this... considering the fact that it isn't even a standard right now and may yet be unified or actually lose the format entirely (Betamax or Minidisc anyone?). Wouldn't it be great if you had to spend that extra $ to get Blue Ray and it becomes useless? Plus, if you read up on Blue Ray a bit, you would know that they are having issues with the disks being too fragile right now...
So, PS3 does have 1080P and Dual Monitor support, Blue Ray (which may be a DISADVANTAGE)and extra media connectors.
Xbox has connectivity to windows. That means that I could read my Compact Flash, SD, MMC or XD. I can stream video or TV, Music in multiple formats. I can stream Blue Ray, HD DVD or the unified format with a PC drive. Pictures or pretty much any other MEDIA I want through a PC. Plus I can just hook up my IPOD and use my own playlists/music in the games if I so choose (I like certain music playing online).
Plus, with LIVE, MS has the ability to update their system anytime they want. So if a new format comes out, they can just load an update to support any new format that comes out (such as Holographic disks at 850GB per disk). I can download music, videos, games or even movies from LIVE. What does Sony have? Nothing.
I will conceed that you make good points, but the extra controllers, extra USB, extra card readers, extra network ports and 1080P/Dual Monitor support are all things that don't affect me (i do have a HDTV but it only does 1080i) and I'm not going to spend $6000 plus for 2 HDTV's.
Otherwise, I'm pretty certain that Xbox has been outselling the PS2 since the release of the Slim Line and they have started making $ on the xbox as well. It is also rumored that they will be making $ on the 360 from day one, which Sony won't be able to do.
