Square Enix adds to strategy in postconference Q&A
Yoichi Wada-led session sheds light on Final Fantasy XI; Xbox 360 gamers will share servers with PC and PS2 users.
LOS ANGELES--On Tuesday, Square Enix opened a Q & A session, where president Yoichi Wada and corporate executive Shinji Hashimoto appeared to clear up any of the inquiries that industrialists may have had from its own press conference and other's that followed.

Report: ~$300 Xbox 360 by Thanksgiving

Before Crisis - Final Fantasy VII
Platform: MOBILE
Publisher: Square Enix
Release: 2006 A few key points surfaced, carried first in Impress Gamewatch.

- Although Xbox Live is an independent online service, Final Fantasy XI players on the Xbox 360 will be able to play with other users on the PC or PlayStation 2. In other words, all three versions of the title will run on the same servers.

- When asked by the press if Square Enix will release any other games on the Xbox 360, president Wada was less than decisive, saying, "We announced only one game this time, but we hope to establish a comprehensive relationship while examining the Xbox 360's capabilities." Wada also said that Square Enix will be considering the release of Final Fantasy XI on other platforms if it has the required environment.

- When asked if there were plans to port other PlayOnline games to the Xbox 360, Wada commented that Square Enix is examining the possibilities.

- Square Enix hopes to release Before Crisis - Final Fantasy VII in America as soon as possible, but Wada commented that mobile phones in America haven't gotten to the point yet where they have good enough hardware specs to run the game. He said Square Enix hopes to release the game on multiple phone carriers and that it's physically possible for users on different phone carriers or different continents to play online together, though there are some huge issues in the way (phone-carrier policy, for one). Wada added that releasing mobile phone games in different regions also has a number of hurdles to overcome, such as differences in hardware specs, programming languages, and business models.

- Final Fantasy XII isn't playable at this E3, but Wada comments that it was simply an issue of timing. He added that Square Enix will have it playable at the end of July, at which point the company will hold a private show in Japan.

- Square Enix plans to dub Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in English for the American release. When asked by the press if there were any plans to release Advent Children with Japanese voice and English subtitles, Wada said he would consider the possibility.

- The trailer of Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII shown during Square Enix's pre-E3 conference had an anime-like appearance to it, but it's not clear how the end product will look since it was created just for the purpose of the presentation. Wada comments that he expects the title to feature a new game system that takes advantage of the PSP's hardware.

- Square Enix plans to expand The World of Mana franchise using its "polymorphic content" strategy. As Wada explained during Square Enix's press conference, the "polymorphic content" strategy refers to
Quote:
a method of taking an original concept and developing it simultaneously across multiple media, including novelizations, film, games, and other products, such as manga. Wada stated that The World of Mana is still in its early planning stages, and there aren't any details that can be discussed, including what kind of media aside from games it will be released on, when it will launch, and what platform the game will come out on.

Martifart: Where did you hear the $300.00 price? Last I heard, it was at $370, which was a drop from the initial $500, then $450. I would guess that if Sony was planning for a $500 release, then they will lose alot on the hardware.

Nintendo started as a trading card company in the 19th century. Their first game station was in like the late 70's or early 80's... not NES. There first video game products were the series of "Mr Game and Watch" things. Sure Microsoft COULD buy Sony.. and Sony COULD buy Nintendo... but that is so very very very unlikely, such a merger would be unheard of. It would be a hostile take over which is when one company starts buying stock of another like crazy in order to gain 50%+ so they can control it. I dont think 50% of the shares of any of those companies would be for sale. There is also the problem that if you start buying shares like crazy it makes the stock price go out like crazy making it more expensive. That being said its probable that Microsoft might not even be able to buy either Nintendo or Sony because of the rising stock price, it would probably have to be an agreement which none of the companies are going to agree to. Its kinda like when Comcast was thinking of acquiring Disney. Disney said "no!" then Comcast looked like they were going to buy a bunch of Disney stock for a hostile take over... the result? Disney stock when flying. I would like to see MS or Sony acquire Nintendo or Nintendo bow out of home consoles so they can get those games on either MS or Sony. If Nintendo merged with either company... that would be my new system, but that is not going to happen.

I read somewhere that they were saying PS3 is actually going to be MORE cost effective then the PS2 at first release.... thats interesting, I wonder how they are managing that. I bet they had a huge R&D cost for the Cell. None-the-less Sony will wait for 360s price then knowing most people percieve PS3 as a more powerful machine they will price it a little higher...

Im saying 360 will be like 325-350
PS3 350-400

A friend of mine brought out a good point though, MS may make a marketing stab by saying "The 360 for 360!" That may zing customers a little. When you think about it anything under $500 is a steal for the amount of hardware you are getting.

cell is new still being tested and not even Sony knows if it will be stronger, weaker, or = to 360. it could be a waste of money. The Xbox cost the same as PS2 but Xbox was alot stronger. their alot of reports i heard that 360 will be $300. Its funny Xbox fans were saying graphic were ever thing and PS 2 fans were saying the Amount of games were inportant.

can MS buy 5 % this summer 5% this fall 5% winter/later this year buy 5% early next year winter, 5% spring, 5% right before PS3 comes out
a total of 35% and what if nitendo do the same thing another 35% and sony will have 30%. MS and Nitendo will have all the controll.

I just really like learning things and read this huge thing about the history of Nintendo. Kind of amazing when you think of how old the company is compared to many other companies today. I'm really interested to find out about the 360s two prices too.

Does anyone have any good links (credible please) about:

Will there be two versions of XBOX 360?
What will each entiail?
Prices?

Will there be two version of PS3?
What will each entail?
Prices?

im not really a fanboy of Sony... I just act like one sometimes because I know the games I want to play are on that system.

There were rumors of a Blue Ray burning PS3 that could be used as PVR to record shows on TV in hi-def then record to blu-ray discs. Problem being I heard it from some shmo on a forum somewhere... was wondering if anyone read anything more official about this topic.

The twin pricing on the Xbox is just a rumor. Around mid April, the rumor started circulating that they would have two versions of the xbox. One that had no drive or camera and one that had the Hard Drive (40GB), Camera, WebTV and backwards compatability (which required the hard drive). This gave rise to the 2 prices story, which in the end was false.

I will note that at the time, it was entirely possible that MS was planning that, but they had obviously changed their minds by mid May.

Hmm, $370 actually sounds more like it.

The ps3 will also have 100-200 games the first year, and have a
t least as many, if not more games soley for ps than the 360.

MGS catroonish??. I can't say i agree, but i can understand why you think so. Nevertheless it is an outstanding game, one of the best games out there.

The ps3 will also btw. have music player options, be able to rip cd's, dvd's and possibly bly-rays, i dunno bout that one. It will
also be able to burn dvd's (maybe cd's and blu-ray??)

People believe it will be more cost effective than the ps2 because frankly, the ps2 was poorly constructed in relations to cost effectivity. The design was new and more complicated than it had to be for several reasons.
The ps3's design is simple, and easier to mass-produce than the ps2 acording to sony, also the cell is not so difficult to manufacture if we are to believe ibm. It will also be easier to make games for the ps3 than for ps2 which used unconventional programming languages.

For the moment sony has more big games companies than xbox 360, what the future will hold remains to be seen, but it will surely be a closer race than with ps2 and xbox.
Personally the ps3 games lineup looks more promising than that of the xbox 360.

Ok so the 360 is a nifty piece of kit aswell..

Do you have a link for the DVD burning? Although I have heard people mention it, I haven't seen anything official, so I'm kinda curious on the specs...

I think that something of concern for the PS3 is Sony manufacturing. If memory serves, the main cause of shortage for teh PS2's came down to not being able to make enough chips. Now Sony is going to manufature the RSX and possibly the Cell chips as well...

Link, sorry don't have one. can't remember where i saw it.

About the chips, the chip construction was part of what made the ps2 so difficult to build. The emotion-engine was of such unusual design they still have problems making it in enough numbers. They say (they.. SAY...) that the rsx and the cell will be easier to produce than the emotion, therefore the lower production costs. I'll see if i can't find a link for where i saw this.

i just thought of this the Net income only shows how much they bring in and not they spent like Ca. u can bring in $100,000 but it mean noting if u spent $1000,000.1.
Does anyone now if sony made money of the small PS2 and PSX.

Those figures do show that costs like in CA. What happens is the money that is spent on things like being sued get thrown into some misc cost and then are deducted from the net income of the year. The deal is, Sony hasnt paid that 90m yet. I think they are going to appeal it because if you think about it there are a lot of controllers that are much like the PS2s and they recieved no flak. Sony was just a target because they have PS2s mass produced. Its like if someone patented trees and said Chia pet violates the patent, they are so similar yet all plants will be similar. If I remember right it was specifically the rumble function in the PS2 controller that set them off too, which is rediculous because almost all rumble features are VERY similar. Well have to see what happens, but Sony is racking up lawyer fees by the day while they fight it, they must have some confidence they will win.

True the cell is still being tested and has not yet been displayed to the public, then again neither has the power of the Revlution or the 360. The 360 demos at E3 were run of macs, not 360s. And revolution didn't show any demos to my knowledge, so really we havent seen anything as far as processing power goes.

I just wanted to say something, i am a big xbox fan and i am buying on as well, we all know that the xbox 360 will have better graphics and other stuff, but, the ps3 will also be very close to it, it does have a better library and others, but if you really look at it, i would say that there both going to be about the same. Everyone has different opinions, but i think there both cool and going to be very close.
