to kilahcam: now who's the hypocrit? You say you hate using that word but there is more than enough in that post to get you banned. You don't HAVE to swear in a post, angry or not. Sorry, but people like you tick me off just as much as the people you're moaning about.

to wvengence: The rsx apparently won't be ready until autumn so i heard, so we have proof that the current demos arent real. But if they're not, what hardware are they really using?

to crankyho: welcome and your 2 cents are much appreciated.

to Reasons?: Why are you so against nintendo?

to pulsar: despite it weighing in at an impressive 59lbs, my e92 kicks some serious ass, and I won't have anyone knock it for being "one of those old, really massive monitors"
show me a 6ms TFT capable of 2048x1536 for that price!
What it lacks in portability (everything lol) it more than makes up for in performance.

Sammorris:
I'll cover this as I know it but this is what started the entire issue of Sony lying...
Day 2 of E3- Jack Tretton (I believe) interview where he is asked "Is the Killzone2 actual gameplay footage? Yes, yes it is."

At the same time, Mark Reins from Epic has an interview where is says that other than the duckies, UT & Fight Night, everything was just a video.

Then (about 3 hours later) Phil Harris (VP of SCEE) is asked the same question (both by G4TV I believe) and says "No, those were actually videos, not gameplay"

The next day, Van Beek (who is working on Killzone2) has an interview where he says that it is a video and "Yeah, it's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make."

So yes, that was a video.

Otherwise, I have heard conflicting reports that say it was a G5 with 2 6800's or a G5 with a 7800 (G70) for the hardware. Not that it really matters though, as my DVD player can handle that...

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/616/616591p1.html

Some were done in real-time, some were CGI. This last part is especially important, since Killzone isn't confirmed to be either, it's just all the videos shown were running to PS3 spec. The PS3 will do it, if the developer will do it.

http://boards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=87590744&replies=51&ui=cb...

Hmmmm, pretty obvious now isn't it. WVengence, your claim that Killzone 2 footage was just CGI is a little bogus now. These clips show people spawing in real time as the game is played. These are slight glitches, that we can be thankful for, it's a good thing they didn't polish the footage too much. It's blaringly obvious that killzone 2 is real time.

Did you catch all that, wath the video clips that the other forum users have provided. He.she will circle or point to people spawning.

This is the PS3 people, forget who said it is real-time, forget who said it is a "representation", because it's both. And every other demo was at the very minimun running to PS3 specifications (what it will generate in real time).

Game over, killzone 2 naysayers. CGI doesn't have characters spawn in the middle of a trailer. This wasn't a "pretty video" it was real time, that they didn't have time to buff out tiny errors before the presentation.

I can't believe I'll have to go through this again.

Reasons: I realize you want to jump on every single thing you can to assist your PS3, however....

Mark Reins from Epic....
"In addition to the Sony demos being shown by Phil Harrison, the Epic and EA presentations were the only portions actually running on the PS3 in real-time."

Now Phil (VP of SCEE)...
"GamesIndustry.biz: One question on the lips of many people at the moment: how much of what we saw in the PlayStation 3 demos was actually running in real-time?

Phil Harrison: "Everything in the demos was real-time.

And what about the game footage clips?

Not all of that - in fact, none of it was real-time because it was all running off video."

Jan-Bart Van Beek (Developer @ Guerilla)
"Is the Killzone sequence a fair example of what people can expect from realtime gameplay on PlayStation 3?

Jan-Bart: Yeah, it's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make."

Not to mention the fact that he states that they started working on the project in November (7 months before E3). I don't know about you, but I would LOVE to see a developer do that in such a short time.

Now, here you have a Sony VP saying that all the gameclips shown were just video, followed by one of the developers saying that this is a representation of what they 'think' the game will look like. Funny but that sounds like it was CGI to me...

Now, go back through and WATCH the Sony presentation. Phil comes out and has the Ducky DEMO, followed by Tim @ Epic with their render of UT2007 then EA's Fight Night. Later, they show a montage of gameclips (the CGI mentioned in the interviews) that includes KZ2 right in the middle of it.

The fact is that Sony tried to make everyone BELIEVE that the KZ2 CGI was real (which is why they included discrepencies) and tried to lie about it (See Tretton interview) when they were actually called to account on it.

Taken from Gamespot Rumor control...
"What we heard: When the lights at Monday's PlayStation 3 demo came up, the audience members picked up their jaws off the floor...and began wagging their tongues. Like a game version of the Kennedy assassination, the audience quickly split into two camps: Those who thought the demo was prerendered, making it essentially computer animation, and those who thought it was rendered in real time, which means it would be close, graphically, to actual gameplay. The fires of speculation were fueled further by the ambiguous comments of Jan-Bart Van Beek, game director of the PS3 Killzone at Guerrilla Games, to the official PlayStation UK site."It's basically a representation of the look and feel of the game we're trying to make," he said. Then a post on the Eurogamer forums laid out a tantalizing conspiracy: Axis Animation, the same Scottish computer animation company that made a cinematic for the first Killzone, had been working on the E3 demo for months as straight-up CG."

I can easily keep going with this, but hope that it's enough information for even the fanboys to grasp the fact that it was CGI and Sony LIED about it.

Otherwise save the "to spec" crap. We saw the "to spec" stuff at the launch of the PS2 and the CGI they showed then 'might' reflect something like God of War or GT4, 5 years after they showed it.

The only thing that is glaringly obvious is that some people will swallow things from Sony hook, line and sinker.

Of course. You are right. Games have always and always will in past, present, and future make or break any system. We know sony is going to have a big library and if Microsoft doesnot come up with more games than they had on the xbox then the xbox360 is doomed before it even comes out the door. Games make the system and if anyone can prove otherwise, please show me how many sytems have dominate the #1 spot without the best library to play. That is why I think xbox360 will be 2cd to PS3.

If Sony would and/or did put in those glitches just to convince people it's real time, that's sad. Maybe your right, they probally did add that in to make it convincing. It was VERY convincing, and dirty to do that.

"Representation", good enough for me. How different the game will actually be, time will tell. If the game turns out to be a rep of that, that's beautiful.

I certainly agree that if they can make a game close to that, it would jaw dropping.

Two things that make me pause though...
1. I saw all this with the PS2 launch and believed it then (which is why I'm so skeptical of Sony this time around).
2. Killzone was 'suppose' to be Sony's Halo killer. I don't know about you, but it was an awful game and so I don't hold much hope for the sequel (although they could surprise me).

P.S. Sorry for the snappish reply. I had that debate for the first 2 weeks after E3 and got sick of it then. Didn't want to go through it again.

Taken from Gamespot: "Third-party support is shaping up strongly, with just about everyone who developed on the Xbox coming to the party in a big way. Even more significant is that Microsoft has made sure to fill gaps in the stable of third parties that were absent on the Xbox, namely Japanese support, which should help the company both stateside and in Japan."

I think Microsoft realizes the importance of 3rd party support and won't disappoint their customers.

I just wish that all of these manufacturers would make a decent gaming console & not an all singing all dancing pile of crap that is full of second class - "that'll do" - components. Quality is the key, not quantity.

BTW, I noticed we have another infant pontificating to all!

I would have to agree slight with you but it is a combination of the two that will determine the dominate sytem. Not just quality alone. You have to have both great games and more than just a few of them.

Even if Xbox 360 is the better system, which I seriously doubt. Sony is still more established. Sony will regardless sell more systems globally and/or America alone than Microsoft simply because it's been around longer and has a bigger fan base. The first Xbox was a beautiful step into the market, but MS stil has a ways to go besides that and one series, Halo.

I didn't think killzone was a terrible game, but we better hope KZ2 is much better, yes. Being one of the PS3's biggest lauch title, if not the one and only biggest, Sony will make damn sure that the game gets done well so they don't look bad, like they would if it turned out like KZ1, just prettier.

While Killzone wasn't a terrible game, it certainly wasn't a great game either and no Halo killer.

You think they would have damn sure the game was done well when they started calling it the Halo killer.

Otherwise, you forgot a few other series on the xbox, like DOA, Ninja Gaiden, Fable ro the Mech Assault series...

That was embarrasing, calling it a Halo killer. They should have waited and called Socom 3 the Halo killer, becasue socom 2 is good enough to do that, what is it, 2 years old? and still has almost a million active accounts, which is probally half a million diff players. After two years, I still play it with 50,000 other people every weekend late night. Now that's a Halo killer, I'd like to see where Halo 2 is in two years. Wait, MS isn't going to let that happen, they'll release Halo 3 before people get sick of Halo2 after barely a year. I am a complete socom fan, it's true. Screw Halo, that game is too unrealistic and faggy techno kid game. I hope xbox 360 will lauch with a socom in nov. but that's just a dream not likely to happen.

What is the difference between ps3=1000BASE-T Ethernet
x360 =100BASE-Tx Ethernet? What does the x mean?

The X means extended specification in that two pair of wires is connected the transmit and another two pair to the receive ports of the hub and or NICs. 1000 Base T is gigabit over copper. As you probably guessed the PS3 specs indicate it will have much faster network capability. The catch here is that the devices you attach will also have to be 1000 Base T in order to see the increased speeds. This would be helpful in a network setup when connecting to other devices but won't improve your online game play any. At best you will get 1.5Mbps to 3.0Mbps to the internet from your provider and even if your connection was faster, you would never come close to using the bandwidth of the 100 Base-Tx connection provided by the Xbox 360.

I'm guessing Sony made this move to backup its claims of being a supercomputer - they were looking more at networking with other devices instead of just focusing on internet game play.

The 100Mbps or 1Gbps is used for LAN, surely?

Not really, Sammorris.

(From the xbox here) When LAN play was designed, the Dev's still took it from the point that people might be using 10Mb/s (Which is still more than fast enough for playing). I've run LAN games tunneled through a 256K connection without trouble so they don't really come close to the 1Mb/s level, let alone 10, 100 or 1000.

I'm not saying that it's necessary for LAN play, but generally 10/100/1000Mbps refers to a lan location. I was just trying to identify what it was being used for.

Solargame, I agree, I had some serious high hopes for Halo 2, you'd assume it would be better than a good predecessor. It wasn't, and I decided not to even buy it.

The gigabit lan will be useful to link it up to your computer, to tranfer data faster than wireless G, much faster. I can see the value, if I want to move my entire 8GB music collection to my PS3, I just bring my PS3 over to my computer for a few minutes to get the job done. Rather than 54Mb p/s, that's good for wireless, but is super slow in comparison.

This doesn't apply to most people, but my PS3 will actually always be connected to my computer. My basement has gigabit LAN outlets in most of the rooms, leading to a central hub, and my computer. So I am just going to put my PS3 down there and have it always linked up with my other computer. Thank-you Sony for including gigabit LAN, now my PS3 will have a high speed connection to a multitude of other hard drives.
