OK, I'm a videogamer. I'm fairly hardcore and have had all the current consoles since the SNES came out.

The last time I was truly impressed with a console release was the N64 which was genuinely more impressive than anything else before then. The 32 bit consoles (PSX and Saturn) were kinda "two and a half D" anf the N64 could handle proper 3D for the first time in a console.

Since then, I haven't really been all that impressed. None of the other new consles that have come out since then have had that quantum leap up from the generation before: The Dreamcast was an improvement over the N64, the PS was an improvement over the Dreamcast and the GC & XboX were both an improvement over the PS2, but none were really a massive leap up. And to be honest I'm getting much the same feeling about the Xbox360 and PS3. Sure, there haven't been any half steps like there were going from the PSX to the PS2 (both N64 and Dreamcast were better than PSX) or from N64 to GC (since both Dreamcast and PS2 were better than the N64).

Don't get me wrong, I have played some great games on all the systems I mention here, just that I don't get excited about new hardware. For example it was a long time before I bought a PS2 or XboX because there just weren't any games I wanted to play on them when they came out. I don't like driving, sport or kung-fu games, so launch titles for these didn't float my goat. And while I love FPSs, I wasn't going to drop the launch price on an XboX just to play Halo (which was a good game, just overhyped, somewhat boring and not worth buying a console for).

Thing is, I'm just not hearing anything about any games I want on this new crop of machines. It's not the hardware that excites me; It's the games. Nintendo will continue to innovate and come up with some trully wacky and fun games. People will still churn out football, racing and fighting games for the PS3 and the XboX 360 will probably have basically the same games as the PS3, only prettier. Decent and interesting games for the PS3 will be written, but none of them will get released in europe (just like the PS2).

I doubt I'll buy any of these machines when they are released here in europe, I'll probably not buy any at all until they're cracked for playing all import titles from anywhere in the world. I don't see wht I should pay more for a smaller selection of badly converted games just because I live in a "geographically undesireable" location.

But what I say is this: Bugger the hardware, where are the bloody games???

Going from the 64 bit N64 to the 128 bit Dreamcast was a huge leap. I think that was the biggest leap by far. If you think about it, N64 was not a huge leap from Ps1's, besides a little better graphics.

These new systems are not truly going to be REVOLUTIONARY, but they will be amazing. Finally a console will be able to out power a PC, and that is a huge leap!

Well, i really do not see what your saying. You can not honestly tell me that you can not tell that there is quite a difference between the Xbox and the Xbox 360 in both graphics and gameplay. And some of the newer 360 games not available on older systems are quite nice. And some of the games that were, Forza2, Colin McRae Dirt and Virtua Fighter 5 for example, have made big improvements over the Xbox versions of those games franchises.

The fuss would be about the leaps and bounds that games have come over the generations of the various systems. And there are plenty of great games out there for you to choose (For 360 that is) and there is a little something for almost everyone.

an example for me would be Tiger Woods 07, have it for the PC, Xbox and Xbox 360. The Xbox version is good and fun to play. But can not compare to the 360 version where you can actully see blades of grass and tree leaves blowing in the wind. Now the PC version would compare to the 360 version except for the fact that some elements were left out to make it a more realistic and challenging game on the PC.
