I am a newcomer to this field, but learn quickly because business is coming in the door fast. I have two SONY VAIO desktops(Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz, 512 MB) sitting side by side, both with Windows XP Home. On one, I have a Digital Rapids Stream 500 encoder. On the left, I have a device that syncs mpeg1 to legal transcripts. This is my problem. An hour VHS encodes on my system into approx. a 1 GB MPEG1 file, which is the media format the syncer uses. So far so good. But if I pass that MPEG1 over the network to the other machine, the resulting MPEG1, when played on Windows Media Player 10, has a pronounced lag/freeze when you try to click ahead on the scroll bar. I have tried about a hundred different things, and have a feeling the answer is right in front of me. Is the problem the encoder; the settings of the profile on the encoder; the short 3-minute copying that occurs when you pass it over the network from one computer to the other; insufficient speed; buffering, and other words I only partially comprehend. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss.
