I used GSpot to determine fps, then loaded TMPGEnc. Loaded VideoCD to match fps. When I then use Browse to select the avi file I get the error "file ...avi cannot be opened or unsupported"

Tried it on two different avi files with the same error.

Any ideas??

While searching for info on my problem I saw a post by BBMAYO. He referred to his guide on converting AVI to DVD. I went to the site, found I needed DivXtoDVD, which I downloaded and then followed his instructions. Bingo conversion going smoothly and Many Thanks to BBmayo.

No ...you didn"t "Need" DivXtoDVD as you could have done it in Tmpgenc(your problem in TMPGEnc could have been easilly fixed by adjusting a couple of Settings) ...DivXtoDVD is a Totally Different Program and doesn"t Produce any were near the Quality as TMPGEnc and DivXtoDVD only converts to Full D1 standard DVD were TMPGEnc can encode to any DVD ,Mpeg or AVI format.....

Cannew, as what I know there are 3 possible reasons for the massage 'cannot open or unsupported' message to appear:
- the file is a MPEG-2 and you don't have TMPGenc Plus (this is NOT your case, since you're loading an AVI file)
- codec missing (what GSpot says? Do you have the needed codec?)
- wrong VFAPI oplugin order. Try doing: Option___ Environmental Settings___VFAPI plug-in.
My VFAVI plug-in list I have (and manage to load any file just having the DivX and Xvid codecs):
- at the top priority (e.g. 1): Directshow Multimedia File reader
- in the middle priority (e.g. 0): AVI2 File reader, BMP/.. File reader, TMPGenc Project File reader, WAV File reader...
- in the bottom priority (e.g. -1): AVI VFW compatibility Reader
This order is not necessary. I think the MUST is 'top priority' for Directshow Multimedia File reader.

To change any priority, right-click a plugin name and choose 'higher/lower priority'.

I hope these changes will make things go fine...post here again the result of the changes.
