Hello to everybody,
First of all sorry for my poor english.

In posting this thread because I need help with my DVD Burner.
The thing is I use a Laptop that dosen't burn DVD, so I bought a DigitalMax DRW-3S163 and an external enclosure that used USB2.0.
So well in my old laptop it didn't work, it gave me the same error so I thought it was that I had USB1.0, and the speed needed to burn a DVD (I just figure it out... I think this is not quite correct but anyways).
So my new laptop has USB2.0 and it still dosen't work, the same error again and I don't know what to do now.

Hopefully you will be able to give me a solution or something like that.

Here goes the Nero Log:

Princo usually means crappo!

00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

Your burner does not like that media. Try some better media, preferably something made in japan. Just look at those labels for maxell/tdk/fuji/sony for made in japan. Of course taiyo yuden and verbatim data-life are some of the best if you buy on the net.You may even want to try the plus format, looks like your report says it will burn both formats. Plus format maxells are all very good, the japanese ones are even better-made by hitachi.

I'm not into usb burners much, but this should be the first thing to check out.Good Luck

Read the link in my signature firstly.

It could be any number of things, from the enclosure you built to Bios setup to Win XP setup. Take it slow and eliminate one thing at a time.

Things I noticed from log.(GOOD JOB, posting all info needed helps!!)

Your burner has a firmware update available. [always confirm compatibility of firmware for yourself...a mistake can toast your drive)

www.godigitalmax.com/download/DR16BSG3.zip

You are using Princo dvd media. It is known to be problematic.
I only use Verbatims myself.

Try turning off autorun on the drive.
Make sure Windows writing software is turned off.

EDIT: Something to know about USB burners. They do not like to be unplugged and plugged into different ports. If you get it working, leave it alone!!

I agree, better than a lot of people where english is their primary language. Well written and good info.

And I had to edit for spelling.

i agree with the above posts~ :)

definitely change your media, i had Princo YEARS ago when they were the cheapest media available for me at the time, i ordered them DIRECTLY from taiwan, due to the fact that i have family that live there and send me stuff for free~ :P

anyways, as suggested by others, do yourself a favor and go with the suggestions in my sig., TY and Verbatims~
if shopping locally, the TYS i mention are always MADE IN JAPAN whether it be Fuji or Sony~ they are YUDENT02 coded and work great~

if purchasing online and you are in fact in the U.S., the 4x TY from supermediastore has worked wonders for me and they are priced right, those are the TYGO1s 4x dvd-rs.

good luck and happy burning~

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Go with "Fuji, Maxell, Sony, Verbatim and TDK" at your local stores, and make sure it says "MADE IN JAPAN or SINGAPORE." If you're going to get some online, then I recommended the "TY," this is good.

Hello again,
Man! I know that it's not really the subject we are discussing, but man! I must say I LOVE this communitys. Last week I had a virus, and in geektogo.com there was a person that helped me a lot.
Now I have this problem, found this forum and the same, well here is even more people, being really kind and helping for free... the future of support center's... Thank you very much...

Well here I have some good and bad news:

Before all this I upgraded my firmware with the same one that miss (in case of being a mister, I understood bad ur nickname, sorry!) LivnDGirl told me. And nothing changed.

I changed the disc media for a Fuji this time. Nothing changed.

I install the other DVD in a real computer (internal). Put a "crappy" disc media (it has the logo of CompUSA) and one big file (900mb) and IT WORKED :-) and I using Nero.

So well I thought it was Nero and being external, installed Alcohol 120% the last version able, made an ISO in Nero and try to burn it with Alcoholo and, failed.

So now I don't know what it is... something with being external.

Here goes my Alcohol Log, any ideas?

Did you try installing this drive internally to confirm it works okay?
(Not sure I understand)

Check the manufacturers website for the enclosure you are using.
Did you try using different USB cables?
Also plug another USB device into the port you are trying to use to make sure that the port itself is working.

Let us know.

PS: It is Miss ;)

Miss LivnDGirl,

Yeah we bought two of this DVDRW and both make the same error with the external enclosure. So what I did was, one of them I installed as internal and it worked fine. The other one its external and its the one that is not working.

I'm gonna check what u asked for... I don't think its the USB Port of the Laptop, 'cause I normally use it with other stuff and they all work.

It seems im running out of possible solutions :-(

Sounds like USB enclosure for sure then, if you checked the cables.

Brand and Model number of enclosure? Maybe we can find troubleshooting on web for it.

If not, sounds like you got a bad one and it needs to be returned.

YES! It is working, or well, I burn my first DVD a couple of minutes ago, but it still not perfect. I will explain now:

Found an "update" (I'm not sure its an update, I just download the lastest files) for my External Enclosure. http://www.byteccusa.com/download/ME-SE-U2.zip
I didn't really understand what to do, so I install what I thought I had to install :-/ there is NO readme or whatsoever. It ask me if I was sure of what I was doing and that it wasn't "Digital Signed by Microsoft" and I say yes. Reboot and everything was working, I didn't realize of any difference. I was expecting a new icon in the system tray, 'cause there some icons in this Zip. So maybe I didn't install this perfectly.

Anyways, test my Nero again: Nothing
Test Alcohol 120%: Nothing
Unistall Both of the Programs, Install the OEM version of Nero: Nothing.
Install DVD Decrypter, set the option to "Test", makes 20 Write Retries, gives me the next error:
http://img284.echo.cx/my.php?image=dvddecrypters6fh.gif
and a "Retry" Button (in Spanish of course) I click that and GUESS WHAT? Starts "burning a test copy". Then I did the SAME! but without testing and GUESS WHAT? It burn my DVD YEAH!!!!!

So maybe I'm too picky, I should be glad that it works, but I really don't like DVD Decrypter, I would like to use my Nero (or something else) 'cause DVD Decrypter only works when you already have the ISO...

So what could be the problem?
Any ideas?

Thanks for your help,
Hunter

Hunt3R, this is from the DVD Shrink site and may explain some of your problem with Nero, since you stated you are running a OEM version.
Quote:
On a side note - If your copy of Nero was bundled with your writer it is extremley likely that you have an OEM version that will only work with that single writer. Should you purchase another writer, the version of Nero that you previously have installed will probably not work with it. To remedy this you would need to upgrade to the full version by contacting Nero for an upgrade serial number or upgrade CD. The full version lets you use 4 recorders at the same time. More info' can be found at their online shop

:-( I have the full version too, but it dosen't work. And I've tried other burners also, it only works when I do "Retry" in DVD Decrypter.

Thanks,
Hunter
