Sony DAV-C990 problem playback near end of movie

Have a sony DAV-C990, backed up movies on Imation DVD+R 8x media. Plays well on desktop. No Scratches. However, in Sony player, near the end of movies, audio and video pauses and breaks, similiar to what you encounter with scratched discs. Sony has no firmware upgrades. So, any solutions to fix problem, other than to get a new player (this one wasn't cheap :( Or get new media (i hate to have to burn those movies again. Had no problems with TDK media.
