I cannot burn any movies. My burner stops halfway thru the burn. With DVDShrink, it fails after 3 seconds. I have reinstalled Nero 6, downloaded DVDShrink, checked my DMA's, everything. Can you help me please:

That drive has been a POS for alot of people. Do you have a Dell?

Also, try using DVD Decrypter w/ Shrink. Create a ISO file and burn it with DVD Decrypter. To see if the problem is Nero or your burner.

I used DVD Shrink to compress and encode, then burn with DVD Decrypter. This method works flawlessly for me.

Yes, this is a Dell, it's 4 months old....
If I use DVD Decrypter, will the dvd 'size' fit in a DVD-5?

Funny you ask, I was using blank Sony DVD's and they worked fine then ran out. Could find any new ones in my area, then tried Memorex (half of the discs burned from that package)and tried HP discs, (out of 50, only 2 have burned). You think it could be the discs and not the system? If so, what discs do you recommend??

I downloaded the newest version of Nero from their site, I am not sure if I uploaded "PACKAGE 3" that included INCD. Should I download the latest version of INCD and why?

Hi,
Listen, thank you all for answering my questions, I really appreciate all your help and advise. But one more thing.

It appears that the dvd burner just idles during the burn. Is this normal? Is there a way to make the burner not idle?

Are there THAT many bad blank dvd's out there? And if there are, don't these companies know they are making bad dvds. Which are the worst? Which are the best?

hi

well if you had no problems at all with sony dvdrs then this is a big one!!

i use only ritek GO5 id codes and brand name slike ANV/RIVISION/SILVER tops/ all go5 ritek...

to update frimware for your drive go to the makers website and download the file and install it (follow the readme / install procedure all the way!)

packet writing software like INCD conflicts with with software trying to burn, it likes to access the drive and not let other apps tottally hold the drive well burning, so uninstall them...

not sure how you would find other apps like philips apps? just try looking in add / remove programs in control panel...

(my old philips burner had packet software!)

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Hi there,

Here's what I have to say about the Dell Philips DVD8631.

GET RID OF IT !

Like most of us, call Tech Support (After taking a box of valliums) and convince them to exchange it for a NEC-3450A or the NEC-3530A.

Tell them everyone who received the NEC are now happy, and you do not want to be like others, getting the Philips replaced 3 or 4 times.

It seems that the new batch Philips DVD8631 Manufacture Date: March 2005 seems to be way better than the CRAP we had.

Anyway, if you can get the NEC go for it.

That Philips DVD8631 will burn DVD-R 4x min, I like to burn at 2x so I'm very pleased that my NEC-3450A does support 2x burning !

There was so many problems with those Philips, I'm still shocked people still have to argue 2-3 hours on the damn phone with them to get them to replace it.

Here's what it should be:
=========================
Hello Dell Support, can I help you ?
Yes I have a Philips burner !
What's the address so we can ship you a new NEC burner !

Thank you !

leandro1--
Yes, uninstall through device manager--then re-boot--XP will re-install it upon booting up--But, after that, even if it works, from what I have read about that DVD Writer, I would call Dell and demand a new one--Just my 2 cents--Have a good day--good luck
