Not a valid PS2 disc?

I have the first ps2 version. It plays DVD+R's movies and original ps2 games just fine. When i Play the swap magic 3.6 it doesn't load any ps2 discs, not even my originals but reloads swap magic just fine. Same with the cd loader. I also tried my friends 3.3 swap magic and it gives me the error not a valid ps2 disc. What should I do. Can i buy a new laser off the newer ps2 versions and replace the dvd rom drive?

are you sure your locking the drive correctly? U should full some resistance then a click sliding noise.

The way to tell is if you put the game in, then try to load it using swap magic and you hear the draw locking, then you not doing it right
