Help! Problems burning photos to DVD

Hi everyone, yet another newbie here :)
I can't seem to successfully burn my photos (jpgs) to a DVD-R. One of two things happens:
1. DVD seems to burn just fine (making a data DVD), but when I try to view pics on the DVD with ACDSee, it takes a long time for the drive to read the disc. When pictures do come up, they sometimes appear corrupted. I think this may be a RAM problem, because if I shut down for a while then reboot, the same pictures will show up just fine (still slow to read though). In my standalone DVD player, the same pics will come up fine...sometimes.
2. Again, DVD seems to have no problem burning, but when I try to copy certain pictures from the DVD to my hard drive, I get a "cyclic redundancy error", but it handles other pictures on the same disc with no problem. I've looked around about this one, and it sounds like this is usually caused by bad media (so I have tried different brands with same results) or problems with the drive itself (i.e. dirty lens, etc) - but I have absolutely no problems burning CDs of any kind.
Also, after burning an MP3 DVD, it *sometimes* cannot be read on / copied to my PC, but my standalone player reads it with no problem.
In all cases these have been single-session DVDs.
With the photo DVDs, they have actually had a couple of AVI files on them as well. Could that be the problem? I'm doing a Scandisc on one of these now...I'll give details if needed later.
I should note that with my version of Nero, under "Photo and Video", I have only one option - "Make DVD Video".

I use this program to store my pictures and it allows you to burn the images specifically to a dvd. there are tons of other programs you can use also.

Thanks. I took a look at the site, but it doesn't look like that is what I need. I don't want to make slideshows or anything; I just want to back up the pics on my hard drive so I can free up some space...and be able to access them on the dvd later!
I did a couple of tests on my latest failed dvd (with the cyclic redundancy error). I didn't complete either of them because they were taking far too long...the disc has over 9000 pictures on it. Anyway, a file test got through the first 900 mb or so with no problem; after that, it couldn't read much of anything. A surface test showed the same thing...the first 35% was ok, but after that it was all unreadable.
Is there any way to scan a blank dvd for errors before using it? Is my problem simply Nero-related? The Nero site won't let me download any of their instruction files. I don't know why; I was able to get the manuals with no problem. I wonder if it has something to do with me being in China...
This is driving me nuts! I have far too many CDs...I really need get them all on DVD so I can chunk the CDs.

Another way may be to use dvd identifier to make sure that your discs are actually what they say they are.

Do you mean make sure the discs are really made by X company? Heh, probably not. I guess I'll have to try to get some real ones :)
I never have problems with CDs I buy though...

Hi there,
Welcome to ACDSee 101 :)
When ACDSee starts, it want to read ALL pictures files, to display their properties (800 x 600 24 bits color blablabla).
Look in the options and change "Read Ahead" on Fixed Disk only.
I think it's what it's called (Read Ahead).
When you insert a DVD-R with 2000 Pix, it won't try to read all 2000 pix in 1 shot.
Try that and keep me posted.

As for "cyclic redundancy error", either it's a bad burn, your dvd is scratched or very dirty. It's the most common error when that happens.
