just learning, went through the guide, was about to convert a 700mb file to dvd, computer reckons its gonna take 10 hours. whats all that about then? i was hoping for about 10 minutes, max.
yeah i tried converting a 700mb AVI file to DVD, following the guide on this site. my computer has 256ddr ram so shouldnt be that slow, it has a decent processor and that like.
im using that program on the guide with the 30 day trial, cant remember its name.
Any time you convert AVI to DVD format you are talking several hours of time. 10 seems excessive. The conversion is system dependent so your CPU, ram, HD speed all come into play. Give us your system specs and program your are using and we might be able to tell you more. Also don't do anything else while doing the conversion. Multitasking will only slow you down more. 256 mb ram is sort of low for any dvd backup process.
I notice you can do that batch conversion thing where you convert more than one file at once, will this twice as long e.g for two files, or will it take the same amount of time for as many files as you want?
il get some new ram added aswell, im at work at the moment so i cant check my cpu spec il add it later on.

@whiteboy2: 256 is very low ,512 would be better but a lot of people prefer at least 1024
You could try using a couple of different programs to see what suits you.Rotary already suggested vso divx to dvd , maybe have a look at mainconcept mpeg encoder as well.
