Hi There.
I happily migrated from DVDxcopy to DVDShrink and everything was working just fine until few weeks ago when my DVD backup become impossible to read on my two DVD player (No disk is the message i get when I load them). However, these backup can be perfectly read by Power DVD in my PC. I am using the same blank DVDs (Sony DVD+R) than before, from the same stack of 50 pcs, so I guess the quality of the DVD should not be the problem. The DVDShrink version is the latest. My Nero 6 is of a "legal" origin (version 6.3.1.11 bundled) that I got together with my DVD recorder, a Lite-On DVDRW.
Between heaven (before) and hell (now). I had to re-install Nero due to some spyware problems (which have been solved). Then, Nero InfoTool made me aware that my system ASPI were "corrupted". I installed the latest version downloaded from Adaptec home page, and now the System ASPI and the Nero ASPI are both declared by Nero InfoTool as "installed and working properly".
I am using Windows XP Home edition 5.01.2600 Service pack 1 and AnyDVD5.1.2.1. It sounds like a format problem but I can not put my finger on it. Am I missing something stupid in the configuration of either DVDShrink or Nero? If anyone can help me out even at the cost of crucifying me first I would appreciate it. Cheers.

Try uninstalling nero again, and run the nero cleantool. You can get the cleantool here:

What speed rating are these?

How fast do you burn them?

Use nero's infotool to find the exact mfg code: Example- ricohjpn-01,sonyD11,Yuden000-T02. These are some of the coded sony plus media I have used. Those sony +1x-8x will burn at 16x in both my benq's with just the original factory firmware,so if your burn speed is selected at max,it could be the problem.

Can you play those backups in any other friends or family players to verify if they can play them or not?

Hi Saugmon, many thanks for your help and quick reply. Will follow your advice to uninstall Nero, download/install the "huge" Nero Tools and re-install Nero again.

Concerning the Sony DVD : until now I burn them at maximum speed, but again I will follow your suggestion to lower the burning speed and see what happens. I already gave a few faulty DVD to a friend just to see if they work in his player. I will have some news today.

Their speed? it is not noted on the DVD and I am left with just the tower (I trashed the cover and the package film). I guess I will go to the shop and check it.

Regarding using nero's infotool to find the exact mfg code of my Sony DVDs...if I go to "Disc", under disc type I get the message "no disc inserted" and the remaining info shows "n/a". Same result if I insert the disk in the player driver. Do I miss something. How do I get the mfg code in nero's infotool?

In advance many thanks for your your further help. In any event I will write back so if the problem is solved it can benefit to someone else having the same trouble.

Many thanks and bye for now.

I inserted a faulty backup DVD (readable only on my PC with PowerDVD) and these are the most significant information I get from Nero Infotool (cd option):

Type : DVD Video (DVD+R)
File System(s) : ISO9660, UDF
Video format : PAL 16:9 (Mpeg2, 720x576)
Region : All

Does it help to understand what is wrong?

I just tried Nero toolkit on some maxells and they didn't show the mfg code. Here is a very handy program and you can download the free trial of dvdinfopro:
http://www.dvdinforpro.com

This will ID those discs, and if they are the japanese +1x-8x they will code as yuden000-to2 while the taiwanese will be SONYD11,both very fine quality media. There could be another ID,anything is possible with media and all the different manufacturers and brands.

Keep that burn speed at around 4x and give her a shot. Many members getting 12x and 16x on these sony 1x-8x's. I have no trouble at 16x,but I still keep it at 4x for more compatability on stand alones.

Do you only have one dvd-rw drive or also a separate dvd-rom drive?

not sure if this helps but I had a problem with shrink using Nero directly after authoring. Shrink will ask for you to insert disk to burn using Nero. I used to do that, but I got the same results as 'no disk'. so I just stopped shrink and closed it down after authoring, opened Nero and burned directly through Nero, haven't had a problem since. hope it works.

Hi Saugamon.

I have 2 DVD drivers, a recorder and a separated DVD-ROM drive, both internal. Haven't tried yet your suggestions because I am packing for a 10 days absence. Be back on June 1st. and revert back on line with good or bad news (for me of course). Meanwhile many many thanks for your input and help.

To GPB42 : many thanks to you too for your additional tips. I will try them too.

Cheers.

Hi Saugmon
I checked the first 4-5 Sony DVD I burned that I thought were okay because after a first quick check they seemed to work (started okay with a menu etc). and they weren't so good. Actually they jump a lot, skip a stuck here and there. Most of the good ones were in fact Verbatim DVD and not SONYs. So I followed your advice and burned a couple of movie at 4x : and it worked!! So I presume I will finish burning what is left at 4x and go back to Verbatim. Below is what O got from DVDInfopro (which I installed). They seem to be made in Taiwan as per your previous message. Anyway, many many thanks for your help....hope I can sail smoothly from now. Cheers.

i also like verbatims, they are flawless, these are made in taiwan w/ the MCC003 coding 1x-8x dvd+r format...may i ask what your coding is on the verbs you have gattonero? glad to see you getting it up and working...congrats~ best of luck for your future backups.

Hi kivory666 (what a scary serial number you got, hope your first name is not Damien)

Below is what I gathered from DVDInfopro. In any event, as I said, never had a problem with them even burning at maximum speed with Nero.
Thank a lot to all of you guys.
