I'm just starting out with a AOpen 16x DVD+-R burner and I can't get it to recognize ps2 game format. I can read and burn DVD movies, but when a ps2 disc is put in the drive it reads as an empty disc. I'm using newly updated drivers and firmware. Did I f*ck up and get the wrong burner? Thanks for help

Movies will play without ANY modifications,
But as you have discovered GAMES WILL NOT. (Here is why)

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.

So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.

With the boot-discs (swap magic) you need a 'tool' to open
the tray without pressing eject for the backups to work.

Here is my ver7 with a fliptop kit added to use my swap magic disks

As far as making backups once you have swap magic disks (or a chip installed)

The tutorial is here.

I use dvd decrypter on good media (verbatim or fujifilm +r)
And burn at 2x speed.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. My problem is not with the PS2 reading the format, I have a swapmagic disc kit. My problem is with getting my DVD burner to recognize the ps2 format. I put in a ps2 disc, Windows Explorer shows it as a blank disc. I've tried using a few other software programs with the same results. Anything I can do to get this AOpen to work?
