30 minutes is not uncommon. As far as my knowlage goes, that is about how fast you can rip Dual Layer Encrypted (Retail) DVDs. You may (I don't know if it will help) want to end any CPU heavy background tasks before ripping (i.e. Antivirus, basicly anything that is constantly monitoring your system) as this may help. Also, make sure you have the latest version of DVD Decrypter which can be found here:

Being it is a laptop I think your bottle neck is probally your hard drive and DVD drive may have rip lock. Most laptops hard drives are 5400RPM. 7200RPM would be much more prefered. I personally run WD raptures 10000RPM in PC. Also you can check and make sure your running DMA mode not PIO mode.

I have a desktop with a 7200 rpm SATA drive, rip a DVD9 movie with Decrypter in 15-20 min, but I think an IDE HDD would be slower.

More memory will help,I have a G and average about 15 minutes per.
Even thru shrink 15-24 mins per.
You can also just rip the main movie files to save time.

For ripping, most of the time your bottlenecks in speed will be in your CPU mostly, also hard drive rotation speed and connection type.

If you watch your buffer (which is your RAM) while ripping it probably isn't even used, and if it is it shouldn't be full. At least mine has never been used for ripping.

The most likely cause is some form of rip lock feature on your dvd drive. I've noticed a significant difference between by Sony badged lite-on drive and my NEC drive - 15 mins vs 30 mins for the same DVD despite them both being advertised at the same speed.

All NEC drives have this rip lock feature which slows the ripping down to 1.5 to 2.5x for CSS disks. Maybe other manufacturers have some form of rip lock feature.

My solution was this http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=137736

Might be worthwhile checking what the manufacturer is of you drive and doing a google for 'rip lock' features.

also something that might help is to do a disk cleanup and a defrag on the harddrive at least twice a month.keeping your harddrive in top shape is important when you are ripping alot of movies, def. helps the speed.
