I've got a problem with burning ps2 games that seems to keep reoccuring. I have a Lite-On dvd+/- burner, some Ridata 8x dvd+r disks and i'm using dvd decrypter. Seems like EVERY disk I burn, when I go to play it, it takes at least 5-7 minutes to load, and, for example on fight night 2004, the music skips and when you go to choose your boxer, it takes a good 3-4 minutes of load time until a boxer actually shows up. Then 10 minutes of waiting to load until you actually get to fight. Does anyone know what is happening here? I haved tried different settings on dvd decrypter, such as reading and writing on only 1x, but nothing seems to help.
If anyone has any info, please let me know. I'm going crazy!!!!
Thanks

Burn faster like 4x speed, if that doesnt work try different media like try -r disks.

are you using swap magic?
what is the size of the game(or iso image size?
it probably has nothing to do with the type of media you are using,i could explain it to you if you give me more info.

dude, some games that are burned just load SLOWLY. it may not be what your using to burn the game, what media your burning the game onto, or how you loading the burned game....remember, even though most games that are burned from the original will play about 90-98% there are some that will just play crappy, like about 75-80%. thats just how it is. becuase, remember, nothings as good as the original, at least, in the media burning buissnes

I'm using swap magic 2.0, and the size is usually between 2500 to 3500 kb. and in response to the other reply, I know that NO game will give 100% results, but EVERY game I have done does that slow loading crap and then eventually freezes up. I'm getting like 4% here.

Quote: size is usually between 2500 to 3500 kb
you mean mb(megabytes)?or maybe 2.5gb to 3.5gb(a better way of putting it).anyway, the size is good if those are the actual sizes.
now have you cleaned your ps2 lens?if you have a laser lens cleaner disc you could use that.if you dont have one you might want to try cleaning it manually if the ps2 is fairly old.cleaner disc should work fine for newer ps2 but older ones need a more thorough cleanse.
im thinking:
a:your reading the game size wrong.swap magic 3.3(which i have) has trouble with games over 4gb so sm 2.0 must be really bad at that.
or
b:your lens needs to be cleaned

I used to have the same problem, games loaded slowly and would sometimes freeze for a while between scenes. Now every backup I do is quick to load and plays really smooth, my son can't ven tell whether he is playing an original or a backup. The answer to all my problems was to stop buying cheaper disks and to use Taiyo Yuden disks. Even though Ritek are a good general disk and have a fair reputation, when it comes to games they are just not good enough.
I just bought 100 genuine disks for £44.95 still less than 50pence per disk, but well worth every penny. Then use Decrypter to read and write the ISO file, just set burn speed to 1x and let the disk burn at it's lowest speed, usually 2x. P.S. I'm using swap 3.6 and flip top, but have also loaned a disk to someone using swap 3.3 and works just the same.

ok,but have you played a backup that is over 4.3gb with swap magic?the most a single layer game can go to is 4.4gb.so you have some games around 4,3gb and i have yet to get one to play without "rebuilding"it.
if you refresh your toc with the original you will see what i mean.im not sure if sw 2.0 is capable of refreshing the toc(table of content).

I have never done any rebuilding, I have only backed up single layer disks. But as far as could see the original request was not for info on backing up large games, it was to answer the question about slow boot up etc... and I know that by using quality disks I cured this problem.

the point i was getting at is swap magic has trouble with games over 4gb if they are not copied properly(at the right speeds).and games over 4.3gb hardly ever work.the game he was talking about is fight night which has to be over 4gb.and plus he is using swap magic 2.0 which im sure doesnt have high compatibilty with new games.why do you think they have swap magic 3.6 for?doesnt make sense to update a program if there wasnt a need for it.and telling someone that better media worked for you doesnt help him out because he is not using the same version of swap magic as you.im sure his copies are fine,he might want to either get the newest version of swap magic or rebuild the game and see if that works.

Point taken on the game size and swap magic version, obvously I am using the latest version.
But even with the smaller sized games I have copied and using swap 3.6 I was getting the same symptons with the play-back of the games. The only change I have made to get decent play from my backups was to change the DVDs to Taiyo Yuden, as before I was always using Ritek branded disks with either G04 or G05 dye as I had been under the impression they were good enough. It is still worth trying these disks, as they can't make things worse and may well sort the problem before having to payout for another swap version.

dvd writers seem to have a weird preference for media.so his liteon might work better with yuden or might work better with another brand.i tried fujifilm and they are suppose to be great but my drive wouldnt even recognize them in the drive(said no media present),but other brands work fine.i mean finding the best media is trial and error for the most part.suggestions cant hurt but you cant get your hopes up thinking that is going to solve the problem.

@logsteele
im thinking an upgrade to swap magic 3.6($18) would do you some good.i dont know the capabilties of swap magic 2.0,but before you go out and get sm 3.6(if you do get it) start another thread asking about the capabilties or other peoples experiences with 2.0 and see if they had the same trouble.
i mean, its highly unlikely that at least one of your games wouldnt work with your dvdrs.its more likely that your version of swap magic or your ps2 lens is dirty is the problem.a switch to a different(better media doesnt mean it will be better for your writer)might get your games to work, but that might also mean your lens is dirty.
