sweet eh?

here's the email

Dear XXXXXXX,

Thanks for your email.
Regarding to the issue you mentioned, please kindly notice that Swap Magic can be used to play imported games and backup games. You could have a look at www.swapmagic3.com for more information. However, it currently does not support DVD-9 but I believe that the coming latest version will overcome this problem.

Best Regards,
Kim

It's easier and cheaper to use DVD-5 though.

Subject: Dual Layer Boot....???

Hi there Swap Magic Team,

Is there any information or are you guys in the process of releasing a Swap Magic that can boot up Dual Layer backed up disc? This would be awesome and I'm sure you guys will gain a lot of customers if it can boot DVD9 backed up dvd. I have a Swap Magic 3.6 Plus and I love it dearly, however, this can't boot up any DVD9 backed up PS2 games. Apparently, the dvds and games technology are growing and evolving rapidly nowadays. With that being said; they're starting to press their games on DVD9 disc, and this can cause some issue for us Swap Magic disc owners. On the other hand, it's working great
on booting DVD5 flawlessly. I hope you guys will do something and come up with a DL boot soon. I look forward to hear from you guys soon. Thank you.

Swap Magic 3.6 Plus user,

xxxxxx

And here is what I got from "swapmagic.com"

Dear xxxxxx,

Thanks for your email and your support.

Regarding to the issue you mentioned, as I know, the latest version which
will come soon will introduce DVD-9 disc support function. However, I can't
tell when exactly it will release, please understand.

Thanks again for your time and your valuable comments.

Best Regards,
Kim

DVD9 games probably aren't going to be the wave of the future. If you look at the past, most of the DVD9 games are limited edition games, either that or sports games. If MGS3:S is going to be the game + VR (like all the other ones) it's possible that it'll just come on two discs, but it looks like it'll be DVD9 as well.

And yeah, it seems like people have completely given up on a DVD5 of GT4. Ever since the catch-all HD solution, and the DVD9 solution by Team Toxic, no one's bothered to continue, and crack the table for a DVD5-downsizing.

Anyways, yeah, since the Team Toxic patcher allows for exact 1:1 copies of DVD9 games to be patched to work, the DVD9 disc will probably work beautifully.

Also, if game makers are going to keep making protection on the actual software beyond the disc checks, then our only hope is to just COPY the games, protection and all.

I mean, look at the Team Toxic patcher, I don't think it actually breaks the encrypted tables, but it allows the encrypted tables to be read and decrypted by the game even on DVD+R DL.

Anyways, I'm not going to spout on about how DVD5, even multiple DVD5s, is going to be a continuing trend for games (not again anyways). I'll just shortly list the reasons :
1.) Production Cost (look at all the games that are 4.36GB)
2.) PS2 Compatability

I like the idea of DVD-9 support for Swap Magic, even if there are not alot of DVD-9 games out.It should be added in for people that would like to have the full game of any game.It really isn't new technology to be honest(Zoneloader DVD-9 support Swap Magic long time ago, didn't sell though production cost issues for this company),which is why I really don't understand why this feature hasn't been added in yet.If I had the tools to make it happen.I would produce it in a heart beat, but we are talking about very expensive production. It doesn't cost alot to make a couple of them, but something like this would be in the thousands or so.I agree with you Mik3h DVD-5 is alot cheaper than DVD-9,but it doesn't solve the DVD-9 game issues all the time.Hey RemyK313 I agree with you man to a certain point, but I wouldn't say a DVD-5 ripkit of GT4 is not in the works.I honestly can tell you that http://www.alucard.cc have very experienced people working on this game.Although it is not available even now, doesn't mean that they will not produce a ripkit for it.Everyone has to understand that it takes time. How much time it will take is unknown, but I am 100% positive that someone is working on this game.I am behind ps2modsparadise on GT4,they definately know what they are doing including Sonix admin from http://www.backuptools.co.uk .

I figured one of two things when it came to the DVD-5 solution for that game, since no one's been too active on boards discussing it.
1.) Either everyone is quietly working on it, since nothing more can be said about the game's protection, we're stuck at the table
2.) Everyone who worked on it lost interest.

Anyways, your dream seems to be finally seeing some fulfillment, L-Burna. Maybe the Swap Magic guys saw your posts on the forums, realized you were right, and finally gave in. I guess it took GT4 for them to get it through their heads.

Back to the DVD9 thing, is anyone working on it, that you know? I mean, there are a lot of guys who do have the expertise, legends, you know? But is anyone like Sonix working on it right now?

I don't wanna sound like a bitch, you know? You gotta let the guys do the work, and I'm not going to complain if no one's working on it, since they've worked on it long enough. But just out of curiosity, does anyone have any recent words about cracking the encryption on that game?

I have a feeling Darth and Neness are working on it still, not real sure about Sonix though.I don't really want to burden them though(because of numerous posts of the same questions already ask),another person to look out for is gnie also and of course alot of others. To be honest it is hard to tell at the moment everyone working on it,like you said most of the time people work on it quietly bro.LiquidusX I am positive sooner or later GT4 will be ripped to Dvd5 man.I have been messing with cracking programs every now and then studying it,wouldn't say I am very experience like the top dogs but know a little bit here and there.IDA Pro is very usefull to use with encryption though,so this is a must for this project.Win32Dasm and Win32Dism are pretty good to use also, but IDA Pro is recommended. The elf file CORE.GT4 is encoded so indepth it is taking a long time to make out all the segments of each file from the munge files.I would try to send a p.m. to Sonix, but the option is not available off his website. The forums are down and haven't heard any word from Sonix in the longest time.Sonix knows alot though on the subject with the God of War tool he made.

As of right now, no.
As L-Burna has said, SM currently does not read the second layer of DL discs, it only uses the TOC from the first layer as the size.

So, you'll have to wait either for a DVD5 solution or for the next Swap Magic release with DVD9 support.
