The speed and the format you're using (-R at 2.4) is probably what's causing the problem. Try burning your -R media at 2x. 2.4x is for +R media.

Things of note -

The only burner recently to come back with problem after problem are those made for HP. This is just something I have noticed - again and again. I say this so that IF and I say IF the opportunity comes up for you to exchange the drive, I would like you to take it into account.

As you have the HP you may wish to try something that has worked for me. . . ., I stayed 100% with +R media and my problems dropped way down for all discs drives. Some drives say that they are dual-format (DVD+R, -R, RW) While for a majority of the burners this is true, there are some burners that don't burn -R discs well at all, no matter what their advertising says, HP and NEC are 2 of those. Again, it cannot hurt to try.

Looking at your log;
Quote:
DVD high compatibility mode: No
I would change that mode to "Yes"
Quote:
Data in Burst Cutting Area (BCA) does not exist
The BCA is a circular section near the center of a DVD disc where ID codes and manufacturing information can be inscribed in bar code format. Many times when dealing with pirate DVD discs this will be the first, "Dead give-away" that something is wrong when that area is devoid of information OR corrupted.

Try a change of media. A G02 isn't the best discs that you can have. I suggest something like those discs made by Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Mitsubishi or RICOH. Unfortunately they are also the discs most plagued by pirate Mfgrs. and for that reason I like dealing with Mertline, Supermediastore OR Newegg who have a great return policy on their products. I have had great luck with Ritek, RiData and Verbatim DataLife Plus discs and their prices are extremely reasonable.

Cheers,

Pete

I'm not sure about the HP 640 dvdrw, but the HP 530 is a rebadged lite-on and the HP 630 is a rebadged benq, both of which, like scuba pete said perform better with +r media.
