very frustrating... I need help

Ok, here's the deal. I've looked all over these forums, and I've tried every piece of advice I've found. I need direct help now before I lose my mind.
I've been burning dvds for about 6 months now. All has been fine. I use dvd shrink and dvd decrypter to get the job done, and I haven't had many problems. I had the occasional dvd that wouldn't want to burn, and I just wouldn't worry about it. But here lately, it seems like 80% of the dvds are not burning. When I try to use DVD Shrink, it gets going as usual, but then at some point around 50% complete the whole computer just turns off. It's really weird. So I tried putting the dvds on my HDD first using dvd decrypter. That works fine, but then when I go to use dvd shrink to put it into ISO format to fit 1 dvd, again the computer will just turn off during the process. I mean, it happens all the time. I've updated my versions of dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. So just recently, after reading a lot of posts on this website, I downloaded a trial copy of 1click dvd copy to use instead of dvd shrink. Again, while that program was running, the computer just completely turned off. I tried updating my firmware. I even tried anydvd. I'm very frustrated, and I don't know what to do now... Can anyone help me?

If your computer is shutting off that sounds like a virus on PC. Update virus scanner and give it a run. Personally I would run adaware and spybot search & Destroy to clean up spyware.

Na dont sound like a virii or adware... could be bad memory or cpu heat issues... dl the free MemTester ISO thats around.. google and ye shall find

You may also have a heat problem. Burning dvds uses most of the computer resources. If you don't have enought cooling you get overheat shutdowns. You can try removing one of the case sides (if you have a tower) and direct a small fan at the motherboard and CPU. If you get through the complete process you need more cooling. I also ran into a similar problem with ram going bad or not seated in the slot properly. You might want to check that.

This is kind of strange to me due to the fact that I've never experienced anything that's related to what you've described. The only possibility I can think of is may be your computer might have some kind of "bugz or virus" like others have stated above. Especially, if you frequently leave your computer more than 10 - 20hrs running from downloading. I would suggest you "uninstall" every burning programs i.e. DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, 1Click Dvd Copy, etc. Run a "virus" scan or get some kind of spyware scan, or some kind of hijack scan, then "reinstall" DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. Try it again and see what's up. why don't you post the "error log" from DVD Decrypter if there is any? This will help others to help you better. Hopefully, someone with more skills and knowledge will be able to resolve your problem for you.

I had similar problems a while back, and the advice given here is good...my problem was overheating,everytime my cpu had a bit of work to do, my 'puter would just reboot after a while..and consequently , because none of the programs actually malfunctioned, there were no error logs to check out. I did a lot of un-installing, re-installing etc of various progs. . until I just opened my 'puter case and set a domestic fan on it to cool it, a last resort really!but it worked,so all I had to do was put more cooling into the case All the advice re virus scans and spyware scans is good advice, but then you should be using those as a matter of course anyway

Thank you, everyone. I've done all of the given advice. I found no viruses. I started reading on the internet about overheating. It's a dell laptop, and apparently there has been trouble with them overheating for many people. I downloaded a program called I8kfanGUI to help monitor the heat and fan level of the computer. I also raised my computer off of the desk (a metal desk) in order for the fan to get plenty of air. Anyways, after all of that I successfully burned two dvds last night using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. I really appreciate all of you giving your input. This is an awesome forum website!

yup thought heat but still need to go in and get rid of the dust! its a killer! i do mine once a month and man its full in there!

Laptops are harder to fix overheat problems with. You just don't have many choices. There is a tray available that you set the laptop on that actually has fans in it to keep the bottom of the laptop cool. Thats about the only add on I know of. Like Rotary stated keep the fan holes clear of dust and dirt. Glad you had success.
