I do hope someone within this forum can help me. I have read all through the forum posts and can not find an answer to my problem. I purchased a AOpen DVD +/- RW drive about 2 months ago.I try playing a burnt DVD in my Sony 5 disk changer but it comes back and tells me that the disk can not be read. I know this player supports DVD backups as my step son has backed a few up for me in the past. The method I tried is the same he used with the exception that he used an older version of these two programs. The method I used is as follows. I use DVDShrink to rip the movie to my harddrive. I then burn the movie using Nero. I select the create DVD video on the nero menu. I usually burn it at whatever the computer decided was the best.
My computer is a rather old and slow model. It is a AMD K-6 with 450 MHz processor and 128 MB of ram running Windows 98SE. I have talked with the manufacturer and they assure me though slow it will do the job. I have also tried several different media brands in both CD -/+ R. My step son has backed up several DVD's with every brand can imagine and has never had a problem getting them to play on my DVD standalone DVD player. Any suggestions or recommendations of things I should look for that might be the problem?

Hey Mark,

Well, first of all, I reccomend you download - DVD Decrypter, it's freeware, easy to use interace and has a whole lotta features.(Click on the Word DVD Decrypter above to download it).

You can use this simply by inserting the DVD you want to backup, and opening the program and clicking the image at the bottom.

After it has ripped, use DVD Shrink to Shrink down the movie but, when you are going to burn it, rather than using Nero choose "Save as ISO and burn with DVD Decrypter?" on the target device screen.
Make sure you have your blank DVD and DVD Decrypter will write to the disc. The best speed to burn at is 4x but everyone has their opinion. I think DVD Decrypter auto-selects 4x if i'm not mistaken.

Anyway, try that and give us your results, if your still having problems, let us know and we'll try to help you further :)

-Mike

Have you tried this disc on any other DVD Players? Do your other burns on these discs do the same thing? Try it in your computer using your burner to play it.

I have tried the disks in other players with the same results. I can also tell you these disks will not play on my DVD drive either.

I will try the methods mentioned in one of the replies and see how it goes. I will let you know when I have the finished product and test it. Wish me luck,,,lol.

sounds to me like a media issue. Try different discs if your problem persists, or a slower burn speed (I recommend 4x or less).

Good luck ;)

uhhh, extremely unlikely to be a media issue.

"The method I used is as follows. I use DVDShrink to rip the movie to my harddrive. I then burn the movie using Nero. I select the create DVD video on the Nero menu"

this is not a good idea.

He should follow Mik3h's suggestion and he will be fine.

I had the same issues before and it turned out to be media quality was the issue. I'll never buy khpermedia again. Memorex sucks too with DVDR.

Mik3H

I have followed your suggestion, however, DVD Decryptor comes up with an error message - I/O?

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

Well I finally got the chance to try everyone's advice from my original post and with success I might add. I used DVD Shrink to copy the DVD and then used DVD encryptor to burn it. I did slow down my burn speed to 4x as well. I think this speed issue might have been the biggest issue but I will keep backing up my DVD's with this method in the future. It worked perfectly and allowed me to do it all on my 450 MHz AMD-K6 computer. Thank each and every one of you for your advice. I will keep checking in from time to time to see if I can spread some of the knowledge I picked up on to others who might need it. You people are a wonderful group of individuals.

If the original disc was written in DVD+RW does it have to be burnt to a DVD+RW disc?

Thank you
