i posted this question in a previous thread but i'd appreciate an answer from someone that was more sure about it.
i'm using Princo DVD-Rs to play PS2 backups. some downloaded, some copied from games i own. they all play without error on my ps2. no coasters yet (cept for one but it was my fault.) i've heard Princo discs are garbage though. so what i was wondering, does cheap media such as Princo wear down the ps2 laser more than normal media would? the ps2 is louder when i play the Princo backups, like the laser is stuggling to read the disc. i haven't had the chance to try burning to more expensive high quality media yet, so i wasn't sure if thats normal...
using the swap magic 3.6 discs with the slide tool.
To answer your question, YES
Your laser is having a hard time reading them so it will wear it out faster.Cheap discs=cheap ink=PS2 problem in the future
Go out and get some better media. The TDK 4X DVD-R discs i used and the Philips 8X DVD-R were both only about $20 for a 25 pack.
You can't spend .50 to .75 a discs then you will end up spending
$40-$50 on a new laser plus install costs. I am sure you can get good discs cheaper somewhere, but i just buy them at the store.
I got some Maxell DVD+R 8X discs this weekend for only $18 for a 50 pack. Have not tried them for a game yet but are great for movies.
thanks for the help. i guess i'll scrap these Princo discs and get something better.
would i be able to copy the games from my Princo discs to some new higher quality media using DVD Decrypter or something? i don't have the ISOs on my computer anymore, so i cant reburn them all.
