Based on what I have read, those seem like decent media. However, no personal experience.

I would suggest that you consider the Sony (made in Japan) on sale at Circuit city or the Verbatim on sale at Best Buy as those are top quality media.

Menacefox, Strange! I've used hundreds of Maxell 8X -Rs and they all code out as MXL RG03. All have burned flawless. I hope Maxell isn't changing its supplier. Could I ask you to double check the brand and the id again?

LABOY, i checked the id tag again, Manufacturer ID: RITEKG05, i thought this to be verry odd also, i bought the disks thinking they would come with the id tag MXL RG03, guess i was wrong. I made a few backups last night and they worked fine for me, i need a way to test my dvds once recorded as the Nero test isnt compatable with my 'el cheapo' Samsung Writemaster, but as far as the id tag i am sure of that, thanks for the replys guys. Ohh these disks are made in Taiwan by the way, have worked so far for me, i'll post again after i've gone through one stack and tell you guys how they preformed.

Are these Maxell 8x -R "gold" or mustard colored.
I just find it hard to believe that Maxell would get Ritek to make their disks for them.
I do know that Maxell is switching to Taiwan as maker in lieu of Japan. I have used Ritek GO4s flawlessly and I have no doubt GO5s are excellent also.

Oh well, the world's a changing....

Thanks and enjoy the good deal you got...

I've been using the Maxell yellow coated 4x media for years now but they are getting harder and harder to come by... I'm going to try out the Maxell 8x media and see what results I get.

Hi there,

Yesterday I bought a Pack of 25 x Maxell 8X DVD-R (Media ID: MXL RG03)
They were $19.99can at FutureShop.

Will try those this week.

My NEC-3450A (Dell OEM) gave me the option to burn up to 8x.
I will check the drive specs to see what's the highest speed of that drive for DVD-R.

That's just for testing, cause I will still burn at 2x and be happy :)
