Is DVD Decrypter the only way to backup PS2 games?

I was just wondering if DVD Decrypter was the only software I could use to back up my PS2 games. Could I just burn a .iso image of the PS2 game using NERO EXPRESS 6 instead of DVD Decrypter?

Hi,
You can use a range of programs to get the .iso image. If you search in Google there should be quite a few come up.
Personally, I prefer to use DVD Decrypter. No faults as of yet (after copying 50+ DVDs)

You can just as easily burn the games with your version of Nero. Just make a normal back up, but in the options, make sure that the backup is reading and writing raw data.
Alcohol is slightly better for this kind of thing, but DVD Decrypter is still the best because it lets you make backups with exactly three clicks.

You can use either DVD Decrypter, Alcohol or Nero to back up PS2 games. It's all your preference of choice.

hey,if you already have a burn program see if it will do a disc backup or disc copy.i do that with mine (drag n drop) and i can copy any game up to 4,3gb(thats because i use swap magic to play them).

the name is drag n drop cd+dvd,it comes with the sony vaio computer in its software bundle.but the point is if YOUR burn software has an option to backup disc or copy disc it should be able to copy the games.i use swap magic 3.3 and it wont play any backup game over 4.3gb,but the copy is still good because i refreshed the toc on these games and got them to work.im not a fan of refreshing the toc(table of contents)so i extacted these games from the iso and copied them with neros or used cdvdgen to get the game working(what people refer to as rebuilding).im sure if you have a modchip you could probably copy all games,except for dual layer,this way and get them to work.

Ive got this program that came with my computer, its called "recordnow" its fuckin easy as hell to copy ps2 games, all you have to do is put your ps2 disc in your drive, click on "create/saveimage", then when its finished, insert a blank dvd and click "burn image", its that easy, no codes no bullshit, just two steps!!!

thats exactly how the backup option on my program(drag n drop) works.your option is called something different but that is what i was getting at.there is no copy protection on ps2 games,but for some reason people assume their burn programs wont work so they dont even try them.

please tell me if i am correct or not because if i am i will be very happy is all i hve to do to burn games and DVDs is download DVD Decrypter and follow the steps and then get somthing to play the backups on my PS2????????

you need a mod(modchip,swap discs,or hd (hard drive)loader)to play the backups first.there would be no way to tell if your backups work otherwise.then you could use decrypter to make copies.you might need some other programs to make backups of some games depending on your mod you use.

man to tell you the truth,everybody says there mod is the best.the best thing to do is ask the pros and cons of each to see which one you would like to get.i have swap magic 3.3(swap disc).basically you insert the swap disc then it boots upmto a load screen,at this screen you would use some kind of slide card/slim tool to open the dvd tray or you could buy a ps2 cover that opens from the top of the ps2(flip top).then switch the swap disc for the backup in the dvd tray.push the tray back in and lock it or close the lid on the flip top.push x(sometimes you have to select other options for imports)and the game should play.a good pro to swap magic is you can use it on someone elses ps2(unlike modchips).its usually the cheapest mod.the cons would be the need to use different programs for some games(usually the ones over 4.3gb)to get them to work right.you cant scratch the disc too badly(youll have to buy a new one).and the small inconvenience of swapping the game disc.i dont have first hand knowledge of other mods(just basic knowledge),but you culd ask around about them.

and by the way,DVD Decrypter is not the only program that can copy ps2 games.its probably the only free one,therefore alot of people suggset it.also dvd decrpyter is more like an universal dvd tool than just solely used for ps2 backups.its very useful with dvd movies too.
