I have just backed up a copy of XXX State of the Union to DVD+R. When I play it in my standalone dvd player it says this disc is not readable and to insert another one. I thought it was because it was in pal and I live in Canada so I am NTSC. I looked it up in Nero info tool and it says it is in NTSC 4:3 Mpeg 1 720x480. Another movie I have, Boogeyman, is NTSC 16:9 Mpeg 2 720x480. Is this what is wrong? What other causes could there be for this? My dvd player is fairly new and has played all cd-r and dvd+r I have thrown at it. It also plays fine on my computer. After further research I believe that it is because it is in Mpeg1. Can someone clarify this.

Thanks

Sycoe

I'm also in Canada. I had a PAL version and used NEROVision Express to convert it to NTSC then burned it to DVD+R. Worked on my 2 DVD players. NEROVision Express gives you a message that says it contains more PAL then NTSC but gives you an option to convert it all to NTSC.

The computer will play it since the DVD-ROM drive is not region coded. Your full size DVD player is region 1 - North America - coded so you need to convert the file to NTSC.

Nero's info tool says it is NTSC. The only difference bettween this movie and the other one I have burned is the mpeg1 vs. mpeg2

Try putting the mpeg1 through TMPGEnc using the wizard and burning it as a VCD. Then it should play on your DVD Player. If you want to burn it
on a DVD instead then encode it to mpeg2. You can get TMPGEnc Plus trial version or the pay version is only $37 now. I've been using TMPGEnc Plus for a few years and a lot of freeware works with it, so it's worth it. :)
