Hey guys,
I just made a backup of my spider-man2 DVD using dvd ripper and shrink the latest versions of course and I used a Sony DVD+R as my backup media. I noticed that the quality is not the same because I can see the fuzzy backround on my back up version. My question is, can I match the quality of my original DVD to any DVD-+R media?

If you want exact quality of your backup then use a Dual Layer DVD then you will have no compression. What program are you using to burn with this also makes a difference in your backup. If you are using Shrink then do deep analysis and quality enhancement of smooth or max smooth, it takes time but the results are worth it, also do not burn at too high a speed. My two cents.

Hey Arniebear,
Thanks for the suggestion its greatly appreciated but I do have some more questions.
1.What do you recommend I should use for a dual layer dvd media?
2.I use Shrink and this deep analysis feature is under the settings?
3.Where would I be able to change the settings to reduce the burning speed?

Thank You

Right now dual layer media is expensive, I purchased mine from supermediastore and got 5 pack of Ritek +R for 24.00. Verbatim brand I have read are better. The Ritek tested out good after the burn using Plextools. Here is a really good guide that answers all your questions on using DVD Shrink

If you are using Nero to burn you cannot slow down the burn speed, Nero defaults to max automatically. If you use DVD Decrypter you can set your speed.

What should I set the burn speed to? I used a dual layer DVD+R and the quality was alot better than the DVD+R, but I believe the quality was still not the same as the original dvd. By setting the burn speed lower and using the DL DVD+R, is there anything else I should do so I can get a excellent copy of my original DVD?

i think burning to a dual layer disc and making a 1.1 copy is the best quality you are going to get as there is no compression needed and nothing is changed . as far as burn speed goes with dual layer disc's most of them that i have used wont let me burn any higher than 4x . a lot of them would only allow 2.4x as the max for me .

I use a Manual Backup Method that Lets me to get usually 2 Full Movies (3.5 hours) on a DVD without any Noticeable Differance in Quality...I can usually retain Most of the Menu"s but I drop the Special Features and Subtitles and Extra Audio tracks....

My Method entails First ripping each DVD as a Single Big VOB file , I then use a program called DVD2AVI to make a D2V frameserver File and to Demux the Dolby Audio...I then use AVISynth to Frame serve the D2V file to my Encoder (CCE SP 2.70) useing some Filters...I then uncode in CCE useing the Multipass Encodeing method and useing my own Custom Quantize MatriX and some Tweaked settings to encode to Mpeg-2/DVD...

I then author the Mpeg-2 Video and Dolby AC3 Files to DVD useing "MediaChance DVDLab Pro" and Make a Main Menu were I can select which Movie I want to watch....

Useing the Other DVD Standards I can Fit up to 6 to 8 hours on a Single DVD with Very watchable Results......

Minion, when you say "single DVD" do you mean DVD5 or DVD9? 'Cuz that's awesome if you can still get good quality with 2 movies on a DVD5.
