I have burned about 40 or 50 disks with Decrypter/Shrink combo with zero coasters.

I have a mix of crappy media (Teon) and some great media (TY) and I have had no coasters from either.

Then when I was trying to back up Return of the Jedi and the bonus disk I made 20 coasters. I have a 100 pack of the TY and I can?t imagine that 8 in a row are junk. Also, as for the Teons, I switched to a separate 20-pack and am still having the problems. i doubt that it is a media or burning too fast issue.

The encrypting goes fine but when I burn, it never gets all the way through burning and it causes an error.

I am at work right now so I can?t post the error message, but I will when I can.

Any ideas? You guys seem to have experienced everything, so I look forward to any tips you might have. My computer is fairly new, I haven't loaded any new programs recently and the only thing that my dvd drive has been used for is making these 40 successfull dvd copies. Since I burn at 4X and have had nothing but success I am at a loss.

I even defraged my drives but that didn?t help.

Well, tonight I made 3 more coasters. Okay, this is the error message that popped up during one of these failed burns. It would not let me copy and paste it so i retyped it for you. I hope this is the info that you need to help me (if not, please tell me exactly how to get the info I need to post).

Check condition can mean bad media. Have you checked the mc w/ a program like Nero or DVDinfo? There are fake TY's on the market.
Check out these thread's on Decrypter for some other options:

Hmm - from looking at those links, it seems like it could be one of two things: 1) i need to update my firmware; or 2) my drive is shot.

I am a computer novice, so could someone walk me through how to check these two things?

The links that I saw to check if I need to update my "firmware" do not work. I am not even sure what firmware is, but I assume it is the driver for my dvd burner. Please provide a link so i can see if i need to update that (or look at the error message above and let me know if you can).

Also, is there some way I can run a diagnostic test on my dvd player to see if it is a problem with the dvd burner?

Thanks in advance.

firmware - dunno what to tell you as don't know your setup yet. Basically if your 'firmware' is out of date, your drive would have trouble or not recognise newer media, for instance. Remember newer media is being produced etc, faster speeds or whatever, and your drive can only 'learn' how to cope with these changes via newer firmware..

edit-oops didn't see the model number listed, 'the font was far too small' !

snorkel ,
Below is the update firmware for your burner. It is on the Samsung site. I think you are at 04 and the last # on the site is 10 so you may well be behind in the Firmware.
D/L DVDinfoPro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ This program will tell you what firmware you have and it is also free.
You might have to email Samsung w/ the info and ask which update you need. Hopefully they will answer you quickly

snorkel,

I would stick with the TY's from now on and steer clear of those teons. Here are some media codes.

Teac DVD-R 4x (CMC MAG. AF1)
Teon DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG E01)
Teon DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
Teon DVD+R 4x (Philips C08)
Teon DVD-R 4x (CMC MAG. AF1)

CMC MAG is the worst media manufacturer there is. If your backups even play at first give em 6 months and I bet they won't.
