also note that even though you went out to purchase a NEW LITEON burner, the SONY you had before is in fact a rebadged-liteon~ :P
you will have similar burn results with either a liteon or sony branded burner, they are essentially the same with a different outside shell/casing~
while it is not too common for TYs to not perform as expected, there are bad batches every now and then~ i have used thousands of the TYGO1 that you have without problems in my own Sony Dru-710a as well as my liteon drive in my sig~
it seems to me that your burners are more picky than mine are...but, you might have received a "bad batch" as well. the dvd backup game is very much a test to see what your own particular setup likes and dislikes in terms of media, i've had to test out many different manufacturers/brands of media over the years to finally stick with the 2 brands that work well for me in my sig.~ :)
i have yet to hear anyone say "i hate Taiyo Yuden...they are the worst media ever" because there would be no evidence to support this. TYs are regarded very highly here on AD as well as many other sites. i personally use ONLY TY or Verbatim for all my backups and i have thousands as proof that they are indeed GREAT media~
good luck to you, i personally think you might have received a bad batch of those TYG01s, but, i wouldn't discredit TY as being bad media because of your experience. if your burners don't like the TYs, i also recommend Verbatims to anyone too~ give them a try, beware of the TDKs...you MIGHT get unlucky and get the CMC MAG coding which i can safely say, SUCK~ :)
