i have burned the mds file that was downloaded onto my hard drive and burned it to a dvd-r disc and attemped to play it on my flip top ps2 and nothing man its says please insert a ps2 game disc

anyone please help me out

You really need to give more information.
What media is it on? (brand and speed)
What speed did you burn it with and with what program?
What version PS2 is it?
Since you said it was a flip top i assume you are using Swap Magic and a flip top cover on the older chunky style PS2?

My copy of Midnight Club 3 worked fine copied off the original disc with DVD Decrypter to TDK 4X DVD-R

mine worked fine with DVD Decrypter and verbatum +r at 4x.
