Virtualdub/TMPGEnc error

I try and encode a film, but after about an hour the follwing error message pops up:
Now I'm guessing that this is a Xvid codec problem- probably in TMPGEnc, as AFAIK Virtualdub doesn't use codecs. Could someone shed some light on how to tackle this problem?

I think that the guy who shared the movies made it badly, and therefore the Site where he shared the movie into are trying to tell him to 'register' in the Site where you got it (and he shared it).
It seems that that guy can share only 50 megs of stuff and, since the movie is bigger, couldn't share it.
It seems that you didn't have it on your HD, but have a link to it, instead (or maybe you have only a part of movie, maybe 50 MB large?).

I've got the entire film on my HD- it's just that TMPGEnc takes a while, and the error message pops up when it tries to actually encode the video(IIRC the audio is encoded first, then the video is added)- ie there is no picture. If it helps here is the Gspot scrren cap for that particular film:
So do I have to install a new codec, or maybe just change the priority of a plug-in? Any help is gretaly appreciated.

You cannot link images from your account at 50megs.com to this site.
Post your images elsewhere.

So you guys can't see the images I posted? Weird, I can see them fine on my Internet Explorer. Let me upload them somewhere else, then hopefully someone can help me out.
EDIT- Okay, I've got a new host for the images, hopefully you guys should be able to see them now. Thanks for letting me know the problem.

Virtualdub uses codecs the same way everything else on your system does. If it's an xvid, vdub uses xvid to decode it, so you can see it on your screen.
Two or three possible issues.
The version of Xvid you have is incompatible with the version used to compress the video.
The video has corrupt frames, or some id10t used Boilsoft to join them, and it's incorrect.
First you need to identify and mask the bad frames.
I use VirtualDub-mp3 for this.
You can then frameserve it to TMPGEnc, or save a fixed AVI.

Okay, I got VirtualDub-mp3 Freeze. Is this the right app, and how would I identify and repair the bad frames?

Select Video, check video for freezes.
It will leave a small txt file in your root C: identifying the bad frames.

I'm afraid that all the frames in the entire movie are bad- there were a total of 355,000 bad frames- which is the whole thing! Can I "mask" these frames (and is it worth/feasible to mask the entire movie) and if so, how?

It looks like a problem with your version (or conflicting versions) of XviD.
I would uninstall them all, then make sure you have DivX installed properly (DivX 5), as according to GSpot, it's a DivX file, not XviD, yet you have XviD set to decode DivX files somehow.

Thanks Jim you were right, it was an codec issue. I re-installed FFDShow, DivX5 Pro, and Xvid- now my movie encodes (almost) perfectly- but now I can't play MPEG-4 videos in Windows Media Player! What codec will allow me to view and hear these files?

Mpeg-4 is just another AVI codec.
There should be 5 or 6 of them in the software section.
