To all , since i am a new member i would like to say hi 2 anyone here. My problem is next. I just have received a great deal on a used but almost new Ps2. However i need to install the mod chip on it. I am not planing to install it myself, but the person who is installing it told me that it can't be done.
I right now have a playstation 2 Version , as it says at the back 30001/97000 i guess it is V1 or V2 or V3.
So my question would be . What kind of mod chip do i need to buy? And is this guy wrong i meaning that it can not be done. Thank you very much.

And almost forgot it is used for american market. (NTSC)

There are a million ways to do this... you could get swap discs (this sounds like your best option... or you could get a no solder mod chip (still dangerous install) or you can get a soldered modchip (yes it is possible)

the 2 best chips are DMS4 Pro or Lite and Matrix Infinity
You can install them yourself but i would not advise you try it. You have to be very,very good at soldering.
There are 17 tiny wires that you have to solder on the motherboard. If you drip one bit of solder in the wrong place you could be screwed.

your best bet would be a no solder mod chip, like mentioned above
the DMS4 EZI Pro or Lite can do all the same things that a soldered in mod chip can do, and you should be able to do that one yourself.

I install DMS chips all the time and do not recomend installing one yourself on a v1-3 machine. The DMS are extremely difficult to install, but adding the difficulty of a v1-3 machine is definately not for the average amatuer.

The contacts for the v1-3 install are tiny are it is very easy to damage your bios and vias, not to mention capacitors and board traces. The chances of success are very low.

Have you thought of getting a HDD PS1 Game - No Swap Method?

The setup is rather painless, and no mods or swapping is required.
