Used DVD Shrink, copied but DVD player shows unknown disk!- help please

Hi, I used dvd shrink to copy a movie to a dvd+rw disk. I can play the disk on my p.c but when trying to use it in my stand alone dvd player it wont play and shows the message un-known disk. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

first a little more info is needed. what model is your stand alone player. Usually a message like un-known disk means crap media. Also does your stand alone support both +- rewriteable dvd formats?

I used Philips DVD+rw disks. I used DVD Shrink 3.2 to rip the dvd and DVD Decrypter to burn it. I have also tried using Nero but with the same results (speed x4). My dvd player is a schneider 1003.

MushyPeas, what a class nickname! i bet you'm english. mmm, chips & mushy peas, the best!
Im having the same prob. just lately.. not many DVD players like the DVD+RW format in my experience. We have 5 standalone DVD players in our house & only the one in the living room will play DVD+RW. id have a go with the DVD-RW format if youre writer supports them..

Hey all,
I have a similar problem. I have a Sony DRU-720A and I'm using Sony 4x DVD-R discs. I can decode the movie (in this case 'Meet the Fockers') using DVD Shrink 3.2 to my hard drive, but the burning process using Nero burning ROM does not produce a disc I can read. The burning process completes and the files are on the disc, but no player can read the disc except my burner (but Power DVD and other players can't read the disc). I've tried to burn the files using Nero outside of DVD Shrink to no avail; I even updated to the latest (as of yesterday 5-30) Nero version. I have previously burned many DVD without any problems using the same setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did a google search and your player does support dvd+rw media. Look here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDnameid=2324#comments
and shows media compatibility. Next we need to know the id of the media you used. Try a program called dvdinfo pro and it should tell you the manufacturer id code. Nosing around the forums I suspect philips is cheap media and did you format the dvd+rw first. In most cases with rewriteable media if not formatted before using they are not recognized by stand alone players. Slow your burn speed down to 2x after erasing and formatting the disk then try your burn again.

Post your Nero log so we( fellow members) can see and help you correct any errors it shows. More specifically members who have been around longer than I have a quicker at spotting errors if you post a failed Nero burn log. Also remember to edit your Nero serial from the top of the log which should be at the top and start off with 1A23 or something like that.

Thanks for aeveryones help so far.
I have just used DVD Decrypter to rip and burn a movie (although it was only half of the movie as it doesn't shrink it down) and it played fine on my stand alone dvd player. Something must be going wrong during the shrink process.....
Does this help identify what my problem is?

DVD decrypter by default uses Microsoft's STPI for burning, where as Nero uses it's own ASPI. I had same problem and when I tried DVD Decrypter, it burnt fine with very less/small number of errors.
We can also setup DVD Decrypter to use ASPI.

Actually, I don't have any failed Nero logs yet. The strange thing about this problem is that Nero feels the disc has been burned without a problem. I do have the log from the completion (without failure) of my last burn, which I can post, but I believe it has only a few lines. If it would help, I can post it, though.
I tried the burning process again, with the same problems. I've never had problems with Sony DVD-R media. DVD Shrink 3.2 completes the decryption without problems, and I can even play the saved .VOB files using Nero. Nero completes the burn, but PowerDVD, Media Player, and every stand alone player I've tried can't read the disc (I still get the "can't read disc; disc might be scratched or dirty" message from PowerDVD, which I can reproduce and post if necessary). Please let me know what more information I can provide to help resolve this! Thanks!

what speed are you burning at? 2x thru 4x is recommended for backing up movies. Is it possible that you got a bad batch of sony dvd-r? try using DVD Decrypter then run your movie thru DVD Shrink. Finally try to burn using Nero. If no results then post your log and we can get you on the road to burning flawless backups.

I burn at 4x using Nero. Half of this batch of discs has burned without problems which is why I focused less on the DVD-R media. I'll try the procedure you previously outlined, and I'll post the results.

Hi guys, it turned out I was doing it right in the firt place. I took one of the faulty discs and tried to play it on a friends dvd player and it worked fine! I did a check on the internet to see if my old schneider 1003 would support dvd + rw and it said it should....obviously this was wrong. Anyway thanks for everyone's help in gettin this sorted.
