Hi,

I am having problems when burning PS2 games (and also movies so i must be doing something wrong!)

The problem I have is that at random points in the game it will just freeze and i have to re-boot, It is not at the same place or time just completely random. I have burned using Nero and DVD Dycrypter on 2 different types of DVD and also had the same problem when burning to CD (for CD based ps2 games)

I am using Swap Magig V3.6

I have the ISO file of 2 games (Lego Starwars and Star Wars 3) and have tried all sorts to get them to work but still get the random freezing....

Can anyone please suggest where I may be going wrong?

I get the same issue when I burn films to DVD, at random points the film will just freeze.. I think this has to be related somehow??

Bulkpaq Generation 4 4x Speed DVD-R

Hi-Space DVD-R

with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105 writter

the CDR's are just cheap non branded silver ones.

Do i need to use better quality DVD \ CD's?
Also seen posts about burn speed, I always burn at fastest possible, is this an issue?

Cheers

I would suggest using brand DVDs/CDs.
Personally, it worked for me (with games) using TDK blank DVDs, -R, 4,7GB.
Have read several times that Verbatim -R DVDs (4,7GB) are working well, too.

And, yes, try burning slower.

I use DVD Decrypter.
Write Speed: 2x
- and it worked.

Good luck!

I never heard of either of those brands of DVD
That could really be your problem.
I have Star Wars 3 and played for a little bit and it works just fine.
Try TDK, Philips,Verbatim

Is that an external drive? If so i have also known people to have problems with them working right.

the drive is internal... I will have to try burning slower and try spending more money on the media..

Any suggestions where I can buy good quality but decent priced media???

Thanks

hey if you got some more of that media left over why dont you try them at a lower speed and see if they work.when you said you burned at the highest speed what speed was that?i mean your dvds were only 4x and if your highest speed was faster than that then of course you are going to have problems if you burn faster than what the disc is rated for

I managed to burn lego starwars onto a SONY CDR last night at 2x and it seemed to work fine, well I played it for over an hour with no freeze... So its either I was burning too fast last time or the CDR was poor quality.

I am going to try burning to my crappy DVD-Rs at a slower speed to see if they work, But i think long term it seems better to spend a bit more on better quality branded DVD-Rs.

Again thanks for all the help on this board, I'm sure i will be using this more often now. Very helpful.

thats nonsense,if you get your dvdrs to work on the cheaper media it would be the same as getting it to work on the so called better media.but trying other media to get the feel of different kinds of media with your particular burner is good.just try to get the media you have to work the best you can before you go out and buy a different brand of media.

and by the way pay attention to the speed a dvdr is rated for.you cant burn faster than this rating.ps2 games are best burned at low speeds anyway,1x-4x with 2x being the happy medium.

If you buy new DVD's just hold on to the other one's because movies are not as picky about the media you use and you can use them to back up movies on instead of games.

I do not label my DRV's just user a CDR Pen.

I have not tried burning movies to my old media at a slower speed yet so gonna go for that...

Yesterday I got my Verbatim DVD-R 8X, I tried burning the Star Wars 3 game I was having problems with using DVD Dycrypter at 2x, Still had same problems.... Burned using Nero at 1X and worked excellent!

Looks like I have a soloution at last, Thanks for all the help...

Just gotta try movies at a slower speed now. Thanks again.

sounds like your ps2 lens might need some cleaning.when your ps2 gets particular about burn speed sometimes cleaning the lens helps out.you should be able to burn at 2x at least.the ps2 has alot more to do with this than the brand of media you used.i used to burn all my backups at 1x-2x(one brand of dvdrs even worked at 4x).i never beleived the media was the best solution even though some media worked better with my burner.so i now got a new ps2 and all those copies i made at 4x that didnt work before now work on my ps2.im not suggesting you get a new ps2 but to try and maintain your ps2 to see if you can get backups to play better on them.my old ps2 benefitted from cleaning and adjusting the lens but still has some minor problems i have yet to figure out(its been dropped a few times, the reset ribbon was ripped out,and the controller ports dont work properly)but still plays every game burnt at 2x(with all media brands used).

PS2 is only 2 5 weeks old so should not need cleaning?? How do you clean the lens anyway, just a normal DVD clean disc?

well, i take it you have a v12 slim?you could probably use a cleaner disc to clean it,since it is new and shouldnt be that dirty.

Its a slimline ps2 yes... I have absoloutly no idea what version it is or even how to find out... I'm sure there is a thread on here somewhere about versions, but does the version really have any great effect on things?

all slims are v12,unless they came out with a v13 recently.and the version number is just a version number letting you know how old the ps2 is.

not sure why DVD Decrypter is giving you bad burns? That still has me stumped.
I have done, ok time for the shocker, 136 PS2 games with it and have never had a problem. I have Nero too but i think it sucks ass for most things. I have since converted to using CloneDVD and AnyDVD combo for all my movies and the quality is 10X better.
