YEsterday, i was having problems with decrypter. I have the latest version of decrypter.I am using a external Plextor Px-712UF burner. Also, using the dvd+r 16x vertabim made in tawain. What i am doing is backing up my original copies of my movies with the dvd shrink. And have it set to where when it finishes ripping the movie it goes automatically to decrypting. In doing this, it sometimes might goes as far as 50% and comes up with an crc error. To be more exact it says: Failed to read from file A_Nightmare_on_Elm_st.iso Reason: Data Error(Cyclic Redundancy Check.)Now i have tried almost everything including cleaning both dvd+r's with either soap & water or even windex. So i have been posting my problems in here and have had gr8 advice but in doing this I was told that if i updated my firmware to the lastest version that it could possibly correct the error. So I updated my firmware to the lastest version. But after doing so it seems to be giving me more problems. I mean i went into device manager and unistalled the Primary IDE Channel b/c it was in the PIO MODE and by doing this i was told that it would reset to the DMA MODE. So afterwards it prompt up a message saying that in order to finish remvoving the hardware, i must restart my computer. SO i click yes. So when i come back into windows it has a little icon to my lower right hand side saying new hardware found. THen proceeds in detail with primary ide channel installed. So then like maybe 2 mins later prompts again saying a message saying that in order to finish remvoving the hardware, i must restart my computer. I don't understand this. So then i am thinking ok so then i do it again. However, when i get back into windows and i go to check out the primary ide channel to see if it got reset to DMA MODE it hasn't. it's back to PIO.. Can somebody help me b/c i am thinking that this is why i can't backup any of my original copies..COuld i be experiencing a virus? Not sure here?? thx all...

Well, you might have DMA disabled in your BIOS. But, DMA has nothing to do with external drives. DMA is only for IDE drives (internal) and not USB. DMA usually only fixes really slow rip or burn times and buffer underrun errors.

CRC errors usually result from dirty, scratched or just plain defective original discs, if you get this error while ripping. If you get this error while burning, it's probably poor quality blank discs. But in this case it appears that the movie has already been ripped and you get this error during compression?? Am I right?? Are you multitasking while doing this? If so, please stop. If not, or you stopped multitasking and you still get this error, maybe try a different original. Take it back and get a new one, or go to Blockbuster and rent it. If you own it but burn a rented one, you still own it so it's still legal.

what are your computer specs?
CPU speed?
Amount of RAM?
free hard drive space?

it's wins xp. 1.7gigahertz, 500mb, not sure on how to check the amount of hard drive space? It's just weird b/c this all happened afterwards when i updated my firmware to the latest version. Also, b4 i updated the firmware i could have it set to DMA MODE but now when i try it doesn't stay in that mode. It's just really making me sad b/c i'm losing quite a bit of dvd+r's. And i know they r good ones 2. By the way how to i go into the BIOS and disable the PIO mODE?

USB drives do not use DMA mode, when you flashed did you disconnect any other USB devices you had running, excluding your mouse? Try running through you DMA process again, and this time turn off and disconnect your drive from the computer. Solve your DMA problems first and then reconnect your drive, your computer will recognize it. If you still experience problems, then turn off and disconnect your drive and try a system restore back to where you were not experiencing difficulties and reconnect your drive.
