Replaced laser - still getting DRE's

OK - so my problem was CD's were working fine, but getting disk read errors with all DVD's. Tried cleaning and adjusting the laser, but no joy. Bit the bullet and replaced the laser (KHS400B) but still getting the same problem.
Any suggestions?

can you give anymore info?do you notice anything out of the ordinary?does it play any dvd originals(ps2 or movies)?what version is ps2?are you using a modchip?i mean give some details.

yeah- it doesn't boot any dvd's. at all. plays cd's original & copies. its a v4 with a neo2.2 modchip, - was using swap magic until the DRE's. after fitting the new laser tried adjusting it too but just made it worse - wouldn't read anything

are the cds ps1 or ps2 games?

gatting a new ps2 might be an option.but you would want to see if you could get your ps2 running before you do that.its too early to give up on it unless you got the money to burn.if you give some more details maybe somone could help you out.

everything was working fine until i started using swap magic to load dvd-r backups. i took the advice of using decent quality disks, but one day after a few weeks it just stopped loading DVD's of any kind, giving Disk Read Errors.
All CD's still worked (PS1 and PS2 originals, audio cd's and PS1&2 backups).I tried cleaning the laser, adjusting it and dvd pot voltage, but no joy. Decided laser was gone so got a new one, but on replacing it found same problem. in fact its worse than before - not all cd's will boot now (audio for instance)
Was wondering if using swap magic would have had anything to do with it? heard it mentioned, but nobody seems to be absolutely sure, though not really sure how. to be honest tho, the PS2 hasn't had that much use, and used more for watching movies than playing games, mostly PS2 originals.
dont really want to get a new ps2, and since i just forked out of a new laser, don't want to throw too much more money at it

your neo modchip you are using,is that a no solder modchip?i think the problem might be there.how does it work?

no, its an old soldered one, but i dont use it anymore as it can't boot DVD-R's. its main function was to open the drawer to allow discs to be swapped when using CD backups, also allows PSX backups to be played, but not sure what else.
