I need some personal guidance on this one. I've searched and tested methods for the past 4 days in regards to my dilemma.

I download my favorite tv shows and have been creating episodic dvd's. My method is 1)VSO DivXtoDVD(to convert) 2)TMPGEnc DVD Author (to create menus and author) 3)DVD Shrink (in case a disk is just slighty oversized and to create ISO) 4)DVD Decrypter(to burn). This method has produced excellent quality dvd's to play on my standalone. The dilemma is as follows:

I have two episodes that play perfetly on my PC when in AVI (Xvid)but when converted to VOB, the audios are out of sync about 3-5 seconds throughout the show (same results from video_ts folder on PC and after burned to dvd+r).

Gspot specs - NAME: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
BITRATE: 123 kb/s (61/ch, stereo) VBR

AVIcodec specs -
File: 346 MB (346 MB),duration: 0:42:26, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 50 %

Video : 309 MB, 1020 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 624*352 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported

Audio : 37 MB, 122 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

These are only the specs for one of the files sbut I think you get the picture.

I've tried using NanDub to make wav files but they're only 30-40 megs. One thread said that under 100 MB usually means the audio is unable to be converted. When I try the convert wav -> mpeg option in CDEx v1.40 it flashes for a split second then does nothing (as described in several other threads).

I tried the dvd to divx5 guide on the site but it didn't help, can anyone direct me to another site, guide, etc to fix this - i need detailed instructions with info on setting options.

TY in advance

No I have not done any tests directly to my AVI files (I didn't know you could). However, I followed the link in your post and it took me to your thread from the 31st May 2005, entitled "AVI --> (S)VCD, K(S)VCD faq: read this first". I found the link to the testing page but it just sent me to the main forums page.

Your audio is Probably going out of Sync because the audio Format is VBR Mp3 which allways goes out of Sync after encodeing so to fix this you need to decompress the audio in the AVI file before encodeing...

Virtual-Dub sometimes has Problems decompressing the Audio in some AVI files so I find it best to use a Small tool Called "Decompress.exe" ..If you PM me with your e-mail address I will send you the Tool for decompressing the audio in your AVI files so they don"t go out of Sync after encodeing.....

OK it finally worked. Thanks for all the help minion OGS and aldaco.
in case anyone's wondering, here's what I did:

I got the decompressor.exe that comes with AVI2VCD as minion suggested to me. After decompressing the file (which btw turned from ~350 mb to ~850 mb) i tried loading it into DIVXtoDVD - still had the same problem. So i loaded the decompressed file into Nandub (for some reason the compressed file wouldn't work even though, according to my understanding, it should) and followed OGS thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/187915 on exactly what to do in Nandub.

The first time I changed the audio delay setting i was still off by 1/2 second. (I checked it quickly by converting with DIVXtoDVD as I usually do but instead of waiting for the whole movie to load, I stopped it after it converted 20-30 secs and played the partial VOB file with PowerDVD). I reloaded the decompressed file into Nandub and changed the audio delay again, rechecked it with DIVXtoDVD as I already mentioned, and found the file to be in sync. Followed the normal procedures as I mentioned in my first thread and am totally stoked about it all working out.
Thanks again to all
