Hey, I've been using Fujifilm DVD-Rs for a while. I went through a 50 pack of the made in Japan (Taiyo Yuden) discs and they were all perfect. I got a new 50 pack and they were made in Taiwan (Prodisc) and they suck. I burn the DVDs and they look fine, but every five minutes or so on my stand alone DVD player (GoVideo DV 2130) they skip. So I want to go back to using TY media. I went to 4 stores today looking for the made in Japan Fujifilm and the stores only have the made in Taiwan ones. So I came on here to see where I can get TY discs.

Some people were talking about supermediastore.com so I checked it out. Is it legit? Is their service good? Also, which TY discs should I get? The "Taiyo Yuden shiny silver 8X DVD+R Media in cake box" or the "Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media silver thermal printable"??? The second one is a little bit cheaper (a few cents per disc). I just write on my discs with a thin sharpie, so I don't need something that is "printable"...

Any help would be appreciated. This forum is great, some of you people know a lot of stuff, it's really helpful.

Thanks,

David

I have ordered my TY's from supermediastore and meritline with no problems. Shipping is a little slower from supermediastore than meritline, but I have been pleased with my purchases. I got 150 of the shiny TY's both 4x and 8x and have not had one bad burn. I ordered the -R format because it is compatible with my standalones, but you can booktype +R for -R format if your burner supports it, +R is a better format, but -R is more widely accepted by many standalone players. :~)

I just ordered "100 Pack Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media 4.7GB Silver Thermal Lacquer No Stacking Ring Blank DVDR Disc on Spindle (DVD-R47ZZSB8), $0.44 each" from Meritline.com.

Hopefully everything goes smoothly. And hopefully these DVDs play perfectly.

Thanks,
David

Awesome, thanks a lot. Yeah, those original 50 Fujifilm DVD-R discs (TY) I used were all perfect, I didn't throw even one out and the movies played perfect. When I bought my second spindle and noticed the plastic container was different, I knew something was up. It took me a couple weeks to realize that it was indeed those made in Taiwan Fujifilm discs (prodisc) that were causing my skipping. I thought maybe my DVD lens was dirty or something, it's nice to have it all figured out now. I'll definitely post with some results after I get the new discs and burn a few.

Thanks,
David

sounds good david, best of luck w/ your burning~

yeah, the made in taiwan fuji's are prodisc, while decent, they are not in the same category as the Taiyo Yudens~ many people have problems with the MIT fujis, but, the very few i had were not half bad...as is true with everyone's individual setups~ mileage may vary :)

good luck~
