I first want to say that DVD Shrink kicks ass and I have been able to burn 9 DVD's with no problems whatsoever. But now I have tried 4 different movies, and I am having the same problem for all of them...

I have been following the DVD Shrink tutorial (http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/23_4.html), but I just use pages 4 and 5 which always seem to work very well. I use DVD Shrink, click "Open Disk" to see how much compression is needed, then click "Backup!", and I get the same problem everytime... I first get the message "This DVD appears to be R.C.E. protected", but I've seen this before and just specify the region to the US/Canada. Now here's where I hit the big problem... Where it says, "Select Backup Target", it only lists "Hard Disk Folder" and "Create ISO Image". Where did my dvd burner drive go?

I then tried looking to see if the drive is being recognized by the computer. So I go to "my computer" and see that when I pop open the dvd burner (brand new, HP DVD Writer dvd640e, HP 16x DVD +- double-layer Lightscribe Drive), it lists the drive as "dvd-rw drive", but when I put the dvd back in the burner it lists the drive as "cd drive". I am using Memorex 16x DVD+R's (which actually burn at 16x on my burner, and I haven't had any problems with them until now). I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Nero and I guess I'm going to try and uninstalling/reinstalling the burner next, but why would everything be working so smoothly and all of a sudden mess up like this? I've only had the burner for 3 days now. Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time.

Woh, I just noticed that the Nero Burning ROM Demo that I just installed a few days ago has already expired, so I'll try and download it again and see what that does. How often do you have to reinstall the demo?

I think the demo version of Nero expires monthly, why don't you use DVDDecrypter to burn it is free. Here is guide and also download site.

Yea, I just realized that Nero stopped working at the end of the month (I wonder if you can change the date on your computer everytime you near the end of the month, hehe). I'm trying the DVD Decrypter way now... does that work as well as burning with Nero?

DVD Decrypter worked great, thanx!

So why even use the Nero Demo if this works just fine?

I own Nero and like it for burning CD's and I use Nero Recode with AnyDVD instead of Shrink for my backups, but if you do not have Nero then Decrypter works just fine and it is free. Since DVDShrink cannot handle all movies, see list of problematic movies here

You will need Decrypter and you might as well use it to burn.

Or you can use AnyDVD. I have had no problems with any of the movies on that list using Shrink and AnyDVD in the background.
