sorry i ama complete noob at this wholething and i want to start making backups of my games soi dont have to buy a new game every time my dog bites a hole in the game ,and i already have a mod to boot up backups

A DL Burner(Dual Layer burner)you can get them pretty cheap now like the Pioneer and NEC burners.Just look off sites like http://www.newegg.com and places like this to pick out a good drive for burning.

If your are going to get a Sony DVD drive then get the Sony DRU-720A
Or the last few years models are great too (DRU-700A & DRU-710A)
It will do everything you need. Every type of DVD and CD media (+r,-R,+RW,+R DL) you name it it can burn it.
I can not tell by those specs if it will do DVD-R and DVD+R, the 2 most commonly used formats for games and movies. Does it say?
