I am trying to backup Dvds with Nero. I have decrypted them, and am ready to burn a compilation by putting the necissary files into the Video_TS folder. Then when I click burn I get:

DVD Video Files Sorted
Caching of Files Started
Caching of files completed
Burn Process Started at 2.4x (3,312 KB/s)
HP DVD Writer 200j
Specified Host adapter invalid
HP DVD Writer 200j/H1 T0
Burn Process Failed at 2.4x (3,312 KB/s)

I don't really know what that means. I guess it means that this hardware doesn't actually burn DVDs and I am out of luck. If you could let me know what the problem is, and what i can do to fix the situation I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

right, lets have a look at your Nero log. it's in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, and all burns good and bad are appended to it. It's quite easy to differentiate each log section in there, so copy paste a section, ie last section, minus serial number which is usually at start of each section and begins with '1A21' or similar

right - getting nearer - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/75920

it seems the 200i is the same as the 200j, i'll see if that makes it easier to find firmware

Release Date: 2004-03-25 Version: 1.72

Description

The upgrade contains all previous firmware revision changes and includes the following new features:

Laser write strategies added for new 8x DVD+R media manufacturers. Without this new firmware version, the DVD200 may experience incompatibilities with these types of media.
(The firmware update will NOT allow the DVD200 drive to write at 8x speeds. The DVD200's maximum recording speed is 2.4x no matter what recordable DVD media is being used.)

sorry, was still looking. just found what i think it is -

This problem is caused by Windows Media Center, using XP's built in burner program. You can disable it by opening the Media Center, go to "Tools' then "Options" click on the "Devices" tab, and select your burner in the window, then below that, click on the "Properties" button. Click on the "Recording" tab, and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive". By default Windows Media Center sets itself up as primary burning software.

Hope this helps!!
that should do it, there's a quicker way - in windows explorer, right click on your burner, go into properties /then click on recording tab, and untick 'Enable CD recording on this drive'
