I have a gameshark 2 ver. 2 which takes forever to load on the PS2 (It recognized it as a non PS2 disc) and want to know how to use it with Swap Magic 3.6 to play backups and imports with codes on them. My PS2 is a V12 Slimline with Slim tools installed.

I'm not really sure about gameshark, but I have codebreaker v9.0.

Here's what I do, I put in the codebreaker cd, select my codes, choose start game, then put the swap magic disk in and then swap for the back up game. Hope that helps, it should work for you.

Take a look at Greatness...

V1 PS2, Fliptop, 200gb HD and HD Advance v2.0
V12 PSTwo, Ghost Switch, SMD v3.3 and v3.6
Plextor PX-716UF DVD Burner, DVD Decryptor
Verbatim 4x DVD-R, TDK 8x DVD-R

How to use cheat discs with backups PSTwos -
If you have an original cheat disc :
1.) Load up the cheat disc and enter your cheats
2.) Don't load in your game when ready, instead
use your Swap Magic disc, appropriate for the media.
3.) Load your game using Swap Magic.

If you have a backup cheat disc :
1.) Load the disc with swap magic
2.) Enter your cheats
3.) At the "insert game" screen, insert your Swap Magic disc.
4.) Load up your backup.

If you have problems, post back, your original post was kind of vague, so I'm not sure if I'm reading your problem correctly.

so there is no way u could just swap in a backup instead of SM? also, is there any other old cheat disc that allows u to directly swap in a backup and it actually works on pstwo slim?

Ohhh, I didn't get your question! You want to use and original Gameshark disc to load backups, am I right? Well, if that's the case, check out the list of faqs in the stickies at the top. The one called "Huge list of FAQs" explains the steps to do that.

Please note, however, that you'll need to have an original gameshark at some point. I don't know, it sounds like you're trying to use a copy of gameshark that you downloaded, and expect that to boot.

There's no way you can boot games if you don't have an original boot disc, like Swap Magic, Gameshark, or Action Replay.

ok, wat i was saying is that a lot of new cheat disc seems to have swap preventing methods that stops u from using the cheat disc as a swap disc. and some of the old cheat disc wont work on the new pstwo slim. so my question is which version of GS,AR,CB should i get for swapping on my pstwo(V12).

Oh, for that case, just get Swap Magic.
Swap Magic's much more userfriendly for booting backups,
as the only thing it was meant to do was THAT.

If you're short on cash, just get an old set. Swap Magic 3.3 is almost the exact same thing as 3.6 except for a bit more compatability with some games (like 4, or 5)

If you want DVD9 support, wait for Swap Magic 4.0 to come out. It's due to come out sometime soon.

But yeah, everyone here will agree with me when I tell you to dump the Gameshark, or AR, in favor of a DECENT swapping set.

I figured out how to play backups on the V12 PS2 by
1) Load Gameshark 2 V2
2) Select your games and codes
3) Swap for CD Loader
4) Press X to load it
5) When CD Loader loads remove Part A from the PS2 (If you have Slim Tools installed it should be the part on the lower right hand corner.)
6) Remove CD Loader and replace it with Swap Magic DVD and place Part A back
7) Wait about 5 seconds and press X
8) Then change Swap Magic DVD with your PS2 DVD Backup and press X to play the backup with codes.

Also I was wondering I have a Action Replay MAX backup and I cant seem to get it working with my backups? I was wondering if anyone would know because I it kept bring me back to the browser. This is what I did load Swap Magic CD, Swap for Action Replay MAX, Select my game and codes, Switch for Swap Magic DVD and then place my backup. Also Evi1d33d I think you would need GS2 V2 or AR2 V2 to play backup but I would get Swap Magic as it is easier use. By the way I do have an original copy of Gameshark 2 V2 and sorry about my first post my question wasn't how to play backups with GS but how to play backups using GS codes. Thanks for your advice though.

Hi, I'm having trouble getting this to work.

I have a PS Two slimline V12 with a mod chip installed (Ripper 3.1 I think). I have absolutely no problems playing backups, but I cannot get backups to work with a cheat program. As for cheat programs, I have Gameshark 4, Action Replay Max Evo, and Codebreaker 9. I can load backups of these programs without any problems. I don't much care for the Action Replay, so I am looking to use only the other two programs.

Here is what I'm doing, I'll use Codebreaker 9 and Final Fantasy X (USA) in the example. I put the Codebreaker CD into the PS Two and turn on the power. The program loads, I choose the cheats and then I select to start the game. It prompts me to insert the game disc. If I insert the Final Fantasy X backup at this point, it won't load no matter what. If I insert the Swap Magic 3.6 DVD, it will load fine. As soon as I hit the eject button to insert the Final Fantasy X backup, the Swap Magic program then expects a high TOC original disc.

I suppose that, at this point, I have to SWAP the backup for the Swap Magic DVD? Or do I SWAP in the DVDloader or CDloader disc first? How do I actually SWAP the backup or DVDloader disc for the Swap Magic disc without hitting the eject button? I watched a video tutorial on how to use the plastic tool to make the SWAP, but it was for the older models that use trays to load the discs.

Why do I actually need to use the DVDloader or CDloader programs like everyone else is doing?

If I were to use an older cheat program (like Codebreaker v7 or Gameshark v2, would I still have this problem and have to use Swap Magic?

Thanks for your help. If I was unclear on any aspect of this, please let me know and I will clarify.

Hey stefanson I not that familiar with that modchip but I know from experience that the DMS3 modchip works. I have two suggestion for you. You can either get a new modchip (the expensive way) or buy a flip top, slim tools, or magic switch and install them (the cheap way) to play your backups with codes. I recommand just getting a fliptop or slim tools as you already have a modchip and this way you can swap discs with out pressing the eject button. Also you dont need CD Loader or DVD Loader because this is only needed if you dont have a modchip and are using Swap Magic to play your backups. If you do get a fliptop or slim tools follow these steps
1) Load your cheat device
2) Select your game and codes
3) Switch for Swap Magic DVD or Swap Magic CD (Depending on the backup)
4) Swap (dont press eject) for your backup

I hope this help if you have problems just post it and Ill try and help you

Thanks Zeroheart. I see what the problem is now. When I purchased this Swap Magic 3.6 set over an on-line auction, I should have won the auction for the Swap Magic 3.6 with Slim Tools and NOT the auction with the Swap Magic 3.6 with the Slide Tool. I didn't know enough about it so I didn't even think there was a difference. The person I bought this from also sells sets with slide tools so I will just have to get in touch with her.

I figured I would just have to own the Swap Magic and the rest wouldn't matter. Well, now I know. These slim tools cost almost nothing so I should be playing with cheats soon enough. I will let you know how it turns out, but I've got a good feeling about it this time. Thanks again for your help!

By the way, if you want to know more about this chip I have installed on my system, you should check out:

http://www.ripper3.com/r3-specs.htm

if this site won't let me post links, then try ripper3. throw in the com after the . and include the three w's before ripper3. Then go to chip specs and scroll down (the first set of specs is for Game Cube).

It's a great chip, works like a charm, but for some reason I have to use this SWAP method to use cheats. It even says in the specs that it's Action Reply and Action Replay Max compatible... Oh well.

By the way, the chip only costs 15 euro. I got this new PS Two complete with a professional modification for 200 euro. I haven't seen a better price anywhere. I would have preferred to have something with a DSM chip, but they just don't sell those in this country. It's all about supply and demand and how much money people have...

Well I have a version 12 slim PSTwo and the only game I got cheats to work from my codebreaker 8.0 and SM3.6 is on Tekken 4. ALL other games I have, codes don't work. I use a flip top to load backups, and I tried all these ways to load codes, and besides Tekken 4, none has worked out. I don't see how using Slim Tool as opposed to Flip Top or the slim tray slide card thing is going to make codes work. Please, if anyone is honestly using codes for their backups on V12 PSTwo at this time, please tell us now, because if anyone is telling us how they do it on their older PS2s and saying it should work on slim PSTwos as well I'm here to say it ain't working.
*Edit* I tried the method of putting Codebreaker, select codes, put in SM3.6, swap in backup without ejecting, and codes DID work for Tekken 4 and Samurai Warriors, but did not for Lupin 3rd and Onimusha 2. So...for some reason it works on some games, but not others...

So I just now received these three little pieces of plastic in the post that I'm assuming are called "Slim Tools." The problem is, I have no idea what to do with them. The person I bought them from on this internet auction site didn't include any instructions! I'm looking around the internet for tutorials on how to use them. I've found one, but the plastic pieces didn't look the same as what I have. I'll look around some more, but if you know where I can find the information quickly, it would be much appreciated. I'll post back if I figure it out.

Ah, the blasted things are actually collectively called a "Magic Switch." I hate how non-specific people in this country are. I'll write back once I've gotten this thing installed and the cheats working.

This large piece, tool C, I've pushed that in as far as it will go (it doesn't actually go in very far). Is its function to keep the lid of the PS Two open, or haven't I installed it correctly? The way it is, I'll have to play games with the lid open...

If it's supposed to look the way it looks in this picture, then I've done it correctly:

http://www.consolesandgadgets.co.uk/Diagrams/Magic-Switch-Menu-En...

I hope that link posts without problem.

I'm off to test this thing.

Well Zeroheart that I used the wrong codes could be true except the codes worked fine when I used them on the original PS2. Besides, the Onimusha 2 codes are the ones Pelican put in themselves, not what I put in, and hence they work normally, but not on my slim PSTwo. Also I found that I can't use codebreaker codes at all for my import game, and I'm absolutely certain that the codes worked on the original PS2, but now when I swap from SM3.6 to the import and press X, it freezes. So I am quite sure the fault doesn't lie with me or the codebreaker codes, but maybe the SM3.6 or slim PSTwo, both of which are brand new.

My version of codebreaker is 8.0, which is reletively new. Actually, I did get Onimusha 2 to work. I had to change its old M code to an updated one, however Lupin and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas do not work and don't have updated M codes, so I don't know why they worked with SMdvd2.0 and cd3.3 on older PS2, but don't work at all on the 3.6's on the older or slim PS2.
