I just can't make a successful backup. I'm using DVD Decrypter to rip the game to HD and to burn in write mode. First one I tried (TEAC disc) just booted to the memory card/Ps2 Game disc screen. Selecting the PS2 game disc would just spin the DVD for a bit then go back to the same screen.

I tried some better media (TDK DVD-R TTG02's), which I had some limited success with. The game (FIFA 2005) loaded, albeit with a little skipping and longer load times. However the longer I played the worse the skipping would get, it would struggle to read the commentary off the disc and it would lag. Eventually it just became unplayable, it would struggle with stoppages, like when a goal was scored it took ages to load the celebration animations. It ended up just freezing. This was after about 10 minutes. I figured the laser was trying too hard to read the disc and overheated?
I tested the disc with K-Probe and got very decent results so it wasn't the burn. Tried a second burn the disc wouldn't load at all and just sat there with a black screen spinning and clicking. Resetting would bring up the not a valid PS2 disc screen, which I thought was odd...?

I read on here that some people had been having trouble with -R's on slimlines so bought some TDK DVD+R's, crossflashed my firmware for my burner (Lite-On SOHW-8012S) to 8032S and got the latest unofficial firmware (CG5G) from cdfreaks. DVD+R didn't work either, just sat there spinning make short clicking noises. Tested this on K-Probe and got average results, so can't see that it was the burn.

Basically I'm out of options, I'm using top quality discs, my burns are fine so what the fuck do I do now. It isn't the chip, it plays a Bali copy of San Andreas (Pressed pirate copy from indonesia) flawlessly. This wouldn't work on a unchipped playstation. Any help would be great. DVD's make expensive coasters :/

I've got Slimline PSTwo with Modbo mod chip. I know people say Modbo is shit but like I said it plays the Bali copy no worries. Also plays originals and movies perfectly. I've only tried backing up FIFA 2005 , so I might try another game but can't see how the image is corrupt in any way. And yes I am using the MDS file and not the .IMG or .BIN or whatever it is.

Cheers for any help :)

Also I have,
Windows XP Service Pack 2
AMD 2200+
256mg DDR

EDIT : Oh and the PSTWO is brand new, hardly used, so I'm guessing the laser is fine.

sounds like your mod might be the problem.maybe it wasnt installed properly?did you check to see if it is compatible with slim ps2?

you could try making the game size smaller and see if that works.and what speed are you burning at?

for a start modbo chips are not compatible with dvd+r,period

if i was you,i would get a sample pack of dvd-r's,and try a simple game

fifa games can be a bitch, and so can san andreas,i am not saying yours shouldnt boot these games,....
however, being as you are having problems, i would try backing up something simple.
if you browse through these forums, you will see problems with both of those games you mentioned

start from there, and see how you get on
i am not a great fan of tdk,as the compitabilty on these disk's is poor in my opionion
being as this is a new ps2,i cant see it being a laser problem, but i wouldnt rule it out just yet.
letas hope its a media issue,as 7-8 /10 times is it

as sui-cyo suggested....

give a few more details on the burn procedure first

I didn't install the chip, got it installed professionaly. The guy tested it in front of me with a few backups and they seemed to work fine. Modbo is compatible with slimline. http://www.modbo.com/home.htm.

Just noticed that DVD+R wasn't on the supported media list. Took that as a given. Still, TEAC and TDK DVD-R's wouldn't work. I'll go try some different brands and different games. Any suggestions for a simple game?

My burn procedure is pretty simple, as suggested by the faq in the general PS2 backup forum. DVD decryper : ISO Read to HD, then ISO write to disc. Burn at lowest speed (2x).

Thanks for the replies. I'll let you know how I go.

try burning the game at 4X
And TDK should work fine. I use TDK 4X DVD-R all the time on both my V7 and V12, and also on my friends PS2 and they work for me.

a good started game might be something like:
burnout 3, need for speed underground 1 or 2, Outlaw Volleyball, Star Wars 3

had no problems with any of those

Ended up burning FIFA at 4x and got a perfect burn! FIFA plays like the original, wouldn't know the difference. Don't understand how this works though, wouldn't burning faster cause more errors?

Oh well aslong as it works :)

Thanks a lot for all the help!
