ROFLMAO Neph, now you know what Plex dvd burner to get in the near future? No confirmation yet if the Plex PX-716A can make a 1:1 backup of Safedisc 4.0 both both drives use the same firmware. The 712A has can also read/write Mt. Rainer, rip DocLock audio cd protection. Sell your Plex 708, grab the Plexy 712A and wait until the BenQ 1640 dvd burner hits the market and your all set :) BenQ 1620 is a awesome drive as well. BenQ isn't known for backing up pc/audio cd protection but produces superior dvd write quality. BenQ 1620 dvd write quality on Taiyo Yuden 002 media is outperforming me Plexy :( I can't achieve the write quality scores even burning at lower speeds than the BenQ with my Plexy using Yuden 002 media. :(

It definitely looks like there's a 712 in my future then. I have to say I'm more than a bit surprised about the BenQ's performance. I'd always considered them decent drives but had no idea the newer models had such superior write quality whcih makes them a steal at the prices they ask. I do have an empty drive bay that needs to be filled.............

Those are some gorgeous scans! How does the 1625 compare for accuracy? I'd really like to have LightScribe capability for labeling the CDs I carry in my truck.

Clueless about the BenQ 1625 Lightscribe dvd burner Neph. Majority of those scans over at "Brother" Freaks are form the BenQ 1620 dvd burner. Besides, I think you'll go with the BenQ 1640 when this dvd burner hits the market. I only have 1 bay open and it's yelling at me get the BenQ 1640 in here Shoey!

Excellent choice Neph and I assure you you'll be more than happy with your dvd write quality! The newPlexy PX-740 dvd burner is nothing more than a rebagged BenQ 1640 dvd-burner. No joke! When buying dvd media once you purchase the BenQ 1640, look for FujiFilm or Sony that says made in Japan. This is Taiyo Yuden media. :)
