I downloaded a few games through torrent and have not had any sucsess burning sucsessful games. I thought it was my DVDs so i changed from inesto to datawrite TITANIUMs and now Verbatims, still no luck. I tried to update my SONY DVD RW DW-U18A dvd rewriter and SONY DVD-ROM DDU 1613 both of which came with my Tiny Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz 512 Ram 184Gb Hard Drive PC. I have tried everything Nero, Alcohol 120%, DVD Decrypter, Clone Dvd and something else i cant remember. I came close once with Need For Speed Underground 2 i think i used nero im not sure but the game loads sometimes to the playstation logo, you know before a game stars then it goes back to browser. My Uncle chipped my ps2 with the same exact chip as his and he burns games fine, (he could have helped but he lives 350 miles away)all his games work too. The ps2 is modded with a chip that does not need a boot disk and boots automatically. My uncle gave one game with the Ps2 (winning eleven on Datawrite yellow)which works excellent so its not the ps2 its my pc, my dvd rewriter or just something i dont know about.
All the help will be very appreciated,
Thank You.

Hi,
Thanks for replying and sorry if i offended anyone by saying i downloaded a game.
Half of the disks i wasted were burnt with Nero, its been 5 weeks and in that time i thought rebooting my pc would help but in the process i had messed up the system and had to send it to get repaired but after having it rebooted it still does not work, im going crazy trying to figure it out. Please help, Thanks.

ok, first off more info would be great
secondly, i assume that you know that when you download games you have to use WinRAR to extract the ISO out of the downloaded files to burn them.
Third, have you tried updating your burners firmware?

Provide info on what games, what speed you burn them at, what kind of errors do you get
not a valid PS2 disc, no message at all, any part of the game load?

Hi,
I extract all the files using WinRAR all the time then i go to Nero burning rom and open up the image file then i burn at speed 4 on my Verbatim DVD-R 8x, when inserting blank DVD discs in my drive it sometimes reads and sometimes doesnt and this is just recently. I have no idea how to update the firmware on my Sony DVD RW DW-U18A.
The Games are Iso image files, the results i used to get where that sometimes it would end at a certain percentage and sometimes it would fail on Lead out (most recent) sometimes it burns completely and it doesnt work on my ps2 it either loads up then fails or it says "please insert a Playstation 2 disc".
Many thanks to those who replied by the way.

DVD Decrypter
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/dawnload.cfm?mirror=0&software_...

Start dvd decrypter right click your rw drive.
First select 'check for firmware updates'. (At the bottom of the drop down list)
After that is complete.
Put a quality blank media into your drive.
Goto mode iso write (using dvd decrypter).
IN THE BOX ON THE RIGHT YOU WILL SEE "SUPPORTED WRITE SPEEDS".
These are the speeds that you can Correctly burn (USING THE MEDIA THAT IS INSERTED.)
It will vary from one media maufacturer to another.
(Go with the SLOWEST SUPPORTED SPEED)

Here is the best way to burn your .iso files.

start dvd decryptor and choose MODE>ISO>WRITE. Select the file that you burn .(should be an .iso form), make sure there is blank DVD in the drive.

Well, what might be the problem with midnight club 3 is that its a PAL version, and not NTSC, now correct me if im wrong, but do you know if your chip has auto region detection? If not, thats why MC3 is not loading, glad to be of service.

Actually, I'm having the same problem as affy, except i didn't download it I am trying to make an actual backup of a game I have. Just got a dvd burner (plextor px-716), and I'm trying to use it for what I bought it for.

Problem details:
Trying to backup PS2 game - Gitaroo Man
Tried making images using DVD Decoder, Alcohol 120%, and Nero
Also used ClonyXXL to determine copy protection - says it has PSX/Libcrypt, then used Alcoholer to get settings from Clony and run them in Alcohol 120%.

My media is Philips DVD+R single-sided discs.
When I burned them they ran at 4x.
My ps2 is V5 with a modchip.

-- When I put the backup into my modded ps2, it loads up the "Playstation 2" logo then hangs at a black screen just before it should load.

I have other backups that run fine which I got other people to make me before I got my burner.

Any help? Thanks.

Hi,
Yes i knew it was PAL thats why i got it and my uncle told me to burn at 4x and i did many times, i have also burned at 2x 1x 6x 8x. The Modchip reads all the games my uncle has made including NTSC games and PAL games. It definatly not the Playstation 2 its the burner, the problem could be a driver or firmware but i have updated firmware but not driver cause windows says there isnt one. My ps2 is SCPH 30003 with 6 screws which im guessing is Version 3. I have to say thanks again for all the replies but if you can get me through this it will be very much appreciated.
Thanks.
P.s recently i had problems with my burner not reading DVDs, blank ones full ones any, so i updated firmware and it did, now it wont read blank ones but very rarely it does, i cant figure out the problem.

@riiyak

you have an old ps2 try cleaning your ps2 lens(preferably with alcohol and a cotton swab).your burner is new so unless you installed it wrong it shouldnt be your prob.maintain your ps2 should be your first priority, especially with old ps2.adjusting your laser lens can help read dvdrs(offers little benefit for commercial dvds).im sure someones gonna tell you to get better media but i will let you know that i havent used a brand of media that didnt work yet(maxell, verbs, sony, and tdk)and all were bought at the local stores.i have a sony burner that isnt the greatest in the world either.

@affey86

if you know anyone around you that has a modded ps2 see if could try your games on their ps2.if not dont worry about it.you could clean the lens on your dvd writer with a cleaner disc(you cant use alcohol on that)and see if it gets any better.

that is an odd problem you gents have. As far as the burner being new, it should work but that does not mean that you have the newest firmware. I bought my Sony DRU-700A brand new and still had to update the firmware. You can use DVD Decrypter, my choice in burning programs, to search for new firmware. Go to TOOLS->DRIVE->search for updates should be the last thing in the pull down list under drives.

If you have a chipped PS2 that you know loads back ups i would not try opening it and cleaning anything quite yet. If it aint broke, don't fix it. In other words if all the other games work fine along with backups from other people then i would not open up the PS2 unless you know what you are doing or you could just cause more problems for yourself when you rip out a ribbon cable or something.

Verbatim 8X DVD-R discs should be just fine, i know many people who use those all the time. Try burning with DVD Decrypter and burning at 1X or sometimes 4X works better.
Also when you extract with WinRAR you do not extract all the files, just the first file in the list of files you downloaded.

As far as Philips DVD+R, i love Philips discs and use them all the time. But i use the -R for games. But the V5 especially with a mod chip should read both types. Also check you mod chip and make sure it will boot games without a boot disc. Beleive it or not some mod chips you still need a boot disc to play back ups. Also make sure it is compatible with both +R and -R DVD's

Like for example my DMS4 Pro chip you can do anything with, but if you just buy the chip and put it in and expect it to load your back ups then you will be sorry. To get all the great features you have to download the ToxicOS flash upgrade, burn it to a CD-R and play it in the PS2 to flash the chip. Then it will do everything it says it will do.

Sorry if this is all a bunch of useless info but i am trying to cover all the bases, games not working is a broad subject and it could be soooooo many different things.

No, I'm sure my PS2 is fine. Doesn't need a boot disk at all, just loads up. And I also know these discs work because one of the backups I got from a friend is the exact same kind and works great.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the copy protection. Once I got a different friend to make me a backup of something, and when I took it home it did the same thing it's doing now with mine. Then I took that non-working disc to my other friend who made me all the good backups I have, and he did a scan and saw Libcrypt was still on it so he did the whole ClonyXXL -> Alcoholer -> Alcohol 120% and turned out a good one that I use currently.

It's either that or there's just something I'm not doing to burn it right. I'll check out the firmware, but also can someone tell me the settings they use in Alcohol/DVD Decoder to burn properly? Maybe its something stupid like that, as it usually is. ;)

i dont know which country your in,but here in america there is no copy protection on ps2 games.ive never heard of clonexxl,psx/libcrypt,or the game gitaroo man for that matter.its sounds like something isolated to your region.try to backup another game or two to get a better feel of what is going on.

Okay, I got it to work, and it wasn't copy protection or bad settings or my ps2. I went to upgrade my firmware and it failed, so I properly installed aspi (which was bad before), then I replaced my ribbon cable for my dvd-rom with an 80-pin one which was a 40-pin before. I dunno why I had the 40 in there, must've been too excited when I finally got my dvd burner. Anyway, I then could upgrade the firmware to the latest version (4 versions higher than it was), which after reading the updates realized my drive had a problem sometimes writing to dvds on my motherboard (Asus A8V).

So, maybe affy you could check your dvd-rom ribbon cable or aspi installation. Seemed to work for me.

Thanks everyone!

maybe the game you downloaded is a fake or it just stuffed, if you are gonna download games (which is ilegal) you might as well hire them from video stores and copy them...(sarcasim)

I've download a PS1 game from a torrent site and burned it with "Alcohol 120%" by setting Play Station data type option. But It doesn't work in my PS. Says "Insert PS format Cd-type disc".

I searched about this matter in internet and some stuff ... like (1) Mod Chip (2) Swap Magic. I'm confused which one shall I use.

Will anyone please explain me in detail what these two things mean and how should I know what type of Chip do I need for my PS? And how should I install in in PS?

First of all thanks all of you for replying its helped so much.
Guess what guys i got one game working Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition which i downloaded. Before i read other forums and i updated my system aspi and Nero aspi and updated firmware to uys4. I also installed Service pack 2 and all the nessasary updates. Then exactly the same way i burned a downloaded Devil May Cry 3, the Playstation 2 sign comes up then just blank screen. I have a Ripper 3 chip on my version 3 (I think its V3 cause i have 6 screws on a SCPH 300003).
All were burned with Dvd Dycrypter. Im going to borrow a game of my mate to backup and also try my Devil May Cry 3 on his chipped Ps2. I moght as well hire a game out too and try one of his copied games on mine. I will give everyone the news soon.
Thanks.
P.s. How can i update my Sony Dvd Rw U18A without using windows update facility, i got a Trail software of Version Tracker and it says i need driver updates but wont tell me what i need because it trail. Is there any software that can help me with driver updates?

Except from article:_______________________________________________
With 3.5.4.0 being the last version, it makes sense for everyone to disable the "check for new versions" feature, as obviously there won't be any. Of course what I really mean is that you should all stop using the program out of respect for the company's rights.

Anyone hosting DVD Decrypter is advised to cease doing so immediately. I've the feeling they won't stop with just me. I'm having to contact anyone I know of that is (at the very least, the "mirror" sites), and tell them to stop. Copies of those emails must also be sent to the solicitors so they can check I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. If I don't, I die.

It is of course down to the owners of those sites to react how they want to. It's not my job to force you to do anything you don't want to, I'm just giving you some friendly advice. Maybe it's just me, but I see this as a bit of an "end of an era". I realise there are other tools, but there's no telling how much longer they'll last, and not only that, mine was the oldest! I've met loads of great people over the years and I want to take this opportunity to wish them every success for the future - yes DDBT peeps, that includes you lot! I hope you've all enjoyed my contribution to the DVD scene and maybe I'll see ya around sometime.

LIGHTNING UK!
