Well, if you do not know how to make backups of your ps2 games, check out this nice guide, http://webpages.charter.net/modchipzone/burningps2games.htm
Also, you may want to look into buying a flip top case for your ps2. You can find them on eBay for cheap.... But if you want to, you can use the cheap little slide card that may or may not come w/ your swap magic discs...

What u need is a dvd burner in your computer! MAke sure it comes with software,like nero or something,nero is nice,u probably dont wanna be looking for sowftware wen u get it,b/c ur wanna get some games burnt!!!! and some blank dvd media( i prefer dvd-r) I gather u have a slimline ps2,right?

Did you get it with a Fliptop or slide card? i sure hope you got a fliptop my god it so easy now the slide card gave me hell but i was scared to open my ps2 at 1st but i got tired of the slide card so i got a fliptop much better mods are good but i can't mess with that right now.
P.S when you get some extra money i would get hdadvance with a 200gd harddrive and play your games from the harddrive that's the best to me.

simple answer:
If you have an old chunky PS2 then you will need a slide card and Swap Magic (or flip top which is easier by far). I can give you a link on how to make and use a slide card if needed. The DVD burner would be obvious, and good media. I suggest TDK,Philips,Verbatim
DVD-R
With the slim PSTwo you need a flip top (no not the one that comes on it) and Swap Magic.(or if not a flip top then Magic Switch/Ghost Switch/Slimtool, one of those to keep it from resetting when you open the top to swap
Or just get a good mod chip installed and don't worry about anything
(DMS4 Pro or Matrix Infinity)
Now the not so easy part.
if you do use Swap Magic there are some games (about 10%) that will not work with Swap Magic if you just burn them strait out.
You will either have to patch or rebuild the ISO.
So start reading up on those things because YOU WILL have to do it sometime if you use Swap Magic. A mod chip you will not.
Also if you want to play back up games online then they will also need to be patched (DNAS or something like that) if you do a search on these forums i am sure you will find all the information you need.

i have the slim ps2 v12. i kept hearing about flip tops and slidecards
im getting ghost tool is that good and how do i install it
i got Nero ultra edition 4 hp dvdrw drives and a 100 pack of sony dvd-r
i heard that dvd+r burns the lens thats why i got dvd-r

, That is not true, And if you have a ps2 slimeline take back the r- and get r+ verbatim disc are the best for ps2 game backups.If you use the r- you will have skips and bad audio on the r-disc,The ps2 slimeline will play your backups better on the r+ disc.

K,to install the ghost switch is easy,i have just done it to mine and yes i have the swap magic and its great, go to this link it has diagrams and such. http://www.clearxbox.com/site/pages/install/ghostswitch.htm
If u wanna void your warranty and cut the sticker,if u wanna keep your warranty on just use it as a hinge, i personally just cut mine,so i didnt have to pi** around with getting the lid back on!!

i doubt it is dual layer,theres only like 2 or 3 games that are dual layer,i am probbably going to rent it tommrow and then ill post if it is or not for sure,when i rent it, it should be tommrow i rent it.
